In the interests of brevity here's the dangerous part of this bill that's being discussed in California today:

b) A smartphone that is manufactured on or after January 1, 2017, and sold or leased in California, shall be capable of being decrypted and unlocked by its manufacturer or its operating system provider.

Raising smoking age to 21 (nanny), more taxes (vaping banned most places, taxed as a cigarette), and now telling us what we can do with our phones (no loading an os which can't be decrypted)

Gosh, I remember when democrats were about freedom... Amusing the projection when liberals make reference to conservatives being dictators.

Actually they do. Its called regulations and codes.

What they cant do is violate the constitutional rights of citizens.

They also cannot do warantless blanket fishing expeditions.

Is there any endeavor or activity that democrats do not want to control?

Is there any Constitutional right they do not want to abridge?

Is there any personal freedom they do not want to rein in?

Is there any aspect of our lives at all where they do not believe they know better that we what what is best for us?

Custom roms will fix the problem...

it might take some time, but someone will fix it.

This should not be happening in the first place however.

Tell that to the auto industry, or just about any industry for that matter.

Really? My phone knows exactly where I’ve been and keeps a very long history. Not just general area like a cell tower, but to within 3 meters. It has my browsing history even if I constantly flush it, it has the text of much of what I post, it has the messages I send, the pictures I take.

Which provider has that much detailed information, and why would you be with them still?

It is a toolkit for making up excuses for whatever warrants you want to make. Honesty, I’m beginning to think that wiping the phone to factory defaults once a week would be prudent. And the detail becomes more extensive each and every day.

We have an APP on our son's phone that tells us who he calls and texts as well as when he does it.( also covers incoming)

He sure was surprised when we asked him who he was texting at 11:57 on a Tuesday night :)

needless to say, he hasn't done that again.

Q- If I can get this info from Verizon, how can the Government not get this info from the wireless company? (with a proper warrant of course)

You probably need to understand what happened after 9/11.

All that cool voice capture technology your phone has had for a couple decades now?

It has ... other uses.

BTW, it’s all providers from what I can tell.

Even though i disagree with the bill itself.

this is all of apple’s liberal political money “commin’ home to roosta”

That simply would not matter. Don’t waste your time.

are not cell phones regulated by the feds due to the wireless nature?

Things they don’t want to control: murder babies, homosexuals and pretty sure that is the end of the list.

It is a felony under this bill to use or produce (if possible to use in California) such an operating system under the proposed law.

Once convicted, I’m sure some judge won’t have a problem ordering the user to unlock the phone.

Why? Because my provider can read the encrypted VPN I use to my home computer to access the internet? That somehow it is hiding in a publicly accessible source file some magic recording and transmitting ability? That it can read encrypted messages?

The phone is the key, otherwise they wouldn't be spending so much effort to make it unlockable on demand.
