Here's How 'President Cruz' Will Govern
The Huffington Post's Huffpost Politics ^ | March 9, 2016 | Earl Ofari Hutchinson

Posted on 03/09/2016 3:11:45 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

The conventional wisdom is that the GOP candidate who poses the far greater peril than Trump can't possibly win the GOP presidential nomination, and would have absolutely no chance in a general election. The result is that few have actually taken the time to closely scrutinize Ted Cruz's actual record. Now that the race for the GOP presidential contest is effectively a two-man race between Trump and Cruz, and the GOP establishment is mounting a furious, all-out full court press to stop Trump, it's time to take the hard look at Cruz that should have been done long ago.

In 2000, the then 29-nine-year old Cruz was the domestic policy advisor to the Bush presidential campaign and a former law clerk for the hard-line, strictest of the strict constructionist SCOTUS chief justice William Rehnquist. From his Bush post, Cruz lined up the legal team that wrangled the conservatives on the Supreme Court to halt the disputed election Florida election count and tip the White House to Bush. Cruz' star skyrocketed in the GOP after that triumph.

While Cruz has seemingly warred with the GOP establishment at times, the fight has been mostly over his style, personality, and comportment, but not on the key issues from abortion and Planned Parenthood to the economy and foreign policy. Take Cruz's rough edge off his bluster about these issues, and his stance on them is mostly in line with the party's on many of these issues. Cruz has been on the political scene long enough to have enough of a paper trail to piece together a fairly accurate picture of what he will say and do on the big ticket issues such as the budget, government spending, civil rights enforcement, the environment, crime control, the military and foreign policy if in the White House....

“That’s what you got out of this? Seriously?”

HuffPo hates Cruz, tolerates Trump. Yeah, that’s exactly what i got out of it.

Trump's experience managing large organizations is infinitely better than anyone else running. And that includes the governor's.

His military and foreign policy experience is weak, but still stronger than the two leading contenders.

Always good to know what the lying left is saying.

"Trump takes the GOP tough line on military confrontation in the Middle East and anywhere else, but he'd also cut funding for the Defense Department. Cruz won't."

when has DT ever said he would CUT defense spending? Is it cutting waste? Missing billions? That's not cutting. That should be done so the boots have what they need, especially in repairing their equipment.

"Cruz has actually voted against every immigration reform proposal, a minimum wage increase, supports a border wall, and will give police agencies virtual unlimited authority to investigate immigrants."

boy, this is such a pro-Cruz article! VOTE CRUZ! I love what they say he'll do. NO DEALS! LOL

You trust lying Ted, do you? Sad. He will do what his special interest groups tell him to do - nothing more and nothing less. Wise up!

Thankfully most people don’t base their votes on liberal erotic fanfiction.

Ted Cruz is a clean, articulate first-term Senator who gives good speeches. He does have a record as a Federal government administrator, and a lawyer arguing cases in front of the Supreme Court. His Senate campaign included the failure to file certain pertinent information about loans that he misrepresented a “selling his life savings”. He Presidential campaign has been involved in several instances of less than ethical campaign practices. That is all we know about him as an executive.

So, I am not so sure how you get to the “will do it” part.

Cruz knows what his power will be WITHIN the law. If DT is nominated, I want Cruz to stay in the senate for balance of power.

This article is a mess.

The article badly misstates many of Trumps’ positions.

I also find it odd that the author states Cruz supports the same “Key Issues” as the GOP, but the real GOP campaigns one way and governs another, supporting the Democrat agenda. Knowing that, does this mean a President Cruz would also support a Democrat agenda?

A lot of the stories on the HP are garbage, and this article is no exception.

“But I’m sure he’d work to get a consensus to make it happen.”

Now that’s funny, right there!

He’s got such a great track record of doing that, of course. What are you guys going to think of President Cruz when he starts “making deals” with Congress in order to get ANYTHING done?

Well, it’s hypothetical of course because there’s not going to be a President Cruz anytime soon.

I am not taking Cruz seriously until he can win more then 3 state primaries. If Cruz wins Florida and Ohio then I’ll be impressed. Right now he has been going through the motions. Winning caucus’ won’t do it...I think only 1 left. He has a huge job to do if he thinks he can win this thing with perpetual 2nd places. I find it hard to believe he’s even taken seriously. Bernie has won more states then Cruz now and no discussion of him beating Hillary for the nomination.
