Here's How 'President Cruz' Will Govern
The Huffington Post's Huffpost Politics ^ | March 9, 2016 | Earl Ofari Hutchinson

Posted on 03/09/2016 3:11:45 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

The conventional wisdom is that the GOP candidate who poses the far greater peril than Trump can't possibly win the GOP presidential nomination, and would have absolutely no chance in a general election. The result is that few have actually taken the time to closely scrutinize Ted Cruz's actual record. Now that the race for the GOP presidential contest is effectively a two-man race between Trump and Cruz, and the GOP establishment is mounting a furious, all-out full court press to stop Trump, it's time to take the hard look at Cruz that should have been done long ago.

In 2000, the then 29-nine-year old Cruz was the domestic policy advisor to the Bush presidential campaign and a former law clerk for the hard-line, strictest of the strict constructionist SCOTUS chief justice William Rehnquist. From his Bush post, Cruz lined up the legal team that wrangled the conservatives on the Supreme Court to halt the disputed election Florida election count and tip the White House to Bush. Cruz' star skyrocketed in the GOP after that triumph.

While Cruz has seemingly warred with the GOP establishment at times, the fight has been mostly over his style, personality, and comportment, but not on the key issues from abortion and Planned Parenthood to the economy and foreign policy. Take Cruz's rough edge off his bluster about these issues, and his stance on them is mostly in line with the party's on many of these issues. Cruz has been on the political scene long enough to have enough of a paper trail to piece together a fairly accurate picture of what he will say and do on the big ticket issues such as the budget, government spending, civil rights enforcement, the environment, crime control, the military and foreign policy if in the White House....

Well, they could have added that in the 2000 fight for the WH, the Supreme Court VOTED 7 TO 2, IN FAVOR OF GW BUSH.

I am not happy they left that out.

But, it’s the HP .. what are people expecting; accuracy and applause ..?????????????????

Funny thing .. I am aware that Glenn said something really off the wall recently, and Glenn has not been seen or heard from since.

But then, I’m not a Glenn follower, so maybe he’s still around somewhere.

I think Ted finally decided Glenn was not helping him.

“He will be ineffective in accomplishing his agenda.”

What do you think is the agenda he wishes to accomplish as a staunch conservative?

Don’t believe he can shrink the size of govt? How about returning the military to effectiveness? Using the bully pulpit to promote family and religious values?

I believe that he would try, but be unsuccessful. He would face a hostile Congress who will dictate what they want, and he hasn't shown that he has the strength of personality to overcome them. He has a way of speaking which is a turn-off to me, and I know there are many others who share this opinion.

This is an academic argument, as Cruz will not be nominated.

well, in importance to me is

1. principled behavior, like respect for the Constitution.
2. ability to execute using that behavior.

He fits #1 (Trump does not)
ability on #2 is more in Trump’s domain, but I do not count Ted out on it.

I look toward #1 over #2 any day, anytime.

Cruz will probably govern like Obama since they have similar backgrounds...harvard law, no executive experience, not natural born citizen, nasty, speaks well but not much upstairs.

What does that tell us?

I'll take "world upside down for 100 Alex!"

In other news, one wonders how trump or if trump will finally answer the Climate change question at the debate.

“speaks well but not much upstairs.”

Obama was just a community organizer and wannabe lawyer.

Ted presented and won before the US Supreme Court.

Do you honestly believe what you wrote? Or just spouting off nonsense?

“Ted presented and won before the US Supreme Court.”

Zzzzz. The cases are decided before oral presentations and the briefs are written by junior lawyers. Cruz has zero executive experience...just like Obama. We don’t need another “Constitutional Scholar” in the White House. And we won’t if Ted is the nominee because Hillary will win in a landslide.

I swear, the Trumpsters are just mindless. On this thread saying he can’t get along, yet I’ve never heard him be rude or insulting to anyone - except Mitch McConnell by stating the flat truth that he lied. He’s shown himself able to run an office full of staff as solicitor general in Texas & no one has shown me ANYWHERE that he’s for amnesty, although he did say he was for immigration reform. Aren’t we ALL? Isn’t what we’re doing not accomplishing anything? A bracero program that allowed people to come & work & then go home easily is what we need. Not amnesty, which Ted has never been for. I’m glad at least one other FReeper sees what I see. Thanks!

Hope you two haven't already signed up for any 'Cruz Inaugural Balls' for the night of January 20, 2017.

Gonna be a tough day for all of you Trump-haters, hearing those words "I, Donald John Trump, do solemnly swear ...."
