LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) The Los Angeles Police Departments first openly gay officer will make his first court appearance Tuesday on domestic violence charges.
Retired Sgt. Mitchell Grobeson, 57, was arrested Friday after a nearly four-hour standoff inside a West Hollywood home before he surrendered to a sheriffs SWAT team.
Grobeson is being held on $250,000 bail on suspicion of corporal injury to a spouse, according to a statement from the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department. He was charged with assault with a firearm and criminal threats stemming from a domestic dispute with his husband that led to Fridays standoff.
The incident began about 10:10 a.m. Friday in the 800 block of West Knoll Drive, according to the Sheriffs Information Bureau. No evacuations were ordered.
Crisis Negotiation Team personnel made contact with the suspect requesting him to come out of the residence, according to a sheriffs department statement. The suspect agreed and surrendered to Special Weapons Team personnel without incident.
Officials did not release further details about the incident.
Grobeson sued the city of Los Angeles in 1988, alleging discriminatory practices against gay and lesbian employees by the police department. He won reinstatement to the LAPD as part of a settlement to that suit but later claimed that his bosses held the suit against him and filed a second lawsuit.
The entire legal saga took 25 years to play out, and Grobeson finally settled the second lawsuit in 2013.
These people have a mental problem, it is that simple.
I remember seeing a newspaper article in the L.A. Times about this dude when I lived in Southern California in the late 1980’s.
I thought gays were always the wise, gentle hipsters, holding coffee cups and making snarky but thought-provoking comments in the sidelines.
TV must have lied to me.
I don’t understand this talk about openly gay violence.
You can’t be gay and violent.
Gay people are the most pleasant to be around.
I love gay people.
(They did what to the word?)
Never mind.
LOL!!! You have no idea!
Rangers not happy with life?
Years ago a man who had longtime experience in the life insurance industry told me that they were wary of insuring queers “because they kill each other to easily.”
I will never accept it.
:-)
Government is a refuge for that mindset
Them and academia and media slash Hollywood
“He was charged with assault with a firearm and criminal threats stemming from a domestic dispute with his husband...”
What’s wrong with this sentence?
“Compared to the rest of the population, homosexuals suffer from huge incidence of addiction, diseases of all kinds, depression, suicide - and violence. And that violence does NOT come from the straight population. It is from other homosexuals.
Its just another manifestation of their mental illness.”
Do you have source material on this? Would be interesting to look at the numbers, as well as if the data has been suppressed.
Is it missing a comma?
Because it’s hard to find negative articles on homosexuals’ negative behavior in the mainstream press.
Why doesn’t the media report that?
Here is a gay magazine itself taking about violence.

There’s plenty of statistics on everything from disease to suicide to violence. The thing is, its all blamed on their status as “victims.” No one dares mention the nature of a disordered lifestyle which will automatically lead to disordered behavior and its consequences

The comments at the article source are pretty funny. (Freepers, maybe?)
I bet LA-CBS didn’t like that.
Thank you. How sad for these people.
