That's a totally unfounded presumption. Pure speculation.
For one thing, there are a good many conservative Democrats. They helped elect Ronald Reagan in a landslide. Did they think he was the "most liberal"? Did they think Carter would beat Reagan? Or maybe they preferred Reagan.
The reason for these crossovers could just as easily be that Hillary is despised by many in her own party, and they are crossing over during the nomination process because they prefer Donald Trump, and might very well do the same thing in general election, because they want to see him as President.
The smug declarations that Trump-haters attempt to pass off as Gospel truth around here are just ridiculous...

You don’t deny that dems are crossing over ... and please, don’t use Ronald Reagan as a tool ... he deserves better and Trump is no Ronald Reagan.
If the dems prefer Trump to Hillary, I would be surprised.
I would also be surprised if Trump could beat Hillary.
That is probably the main reason I am against Trump, the second being that Ted Cruz is ten times the guy and ten times the conservative that Trump is.
