It was a great night for Ted Cruz, and an encouraging one for opponents of Trump. The Texan won a smashing victory in Kansas and an unexpected one in Maine. Trump took Kentucky and Louisiana, the bigger states today, but only by narrow margins. The finish in Louisiana was particularly noteworthy. Trump had built up a big lead in the early voting, so big that the networks called it for Trump almost immediately on that basis, but Trumps margin steadily eroded away as the votes that has been cast today came in. This was a sign that something had hurt Trump over the last several daysthere are many things to choose from, but the debate looms particularly large. (The divergence between the early voting and the voting today is also a textbook case of why early voting is a bad idea.) Cruzs big margins in his states and Trumps narrow margins in his states mean, importantly, that Cruz gained on him a bit in the delegate count.
The other big story was the collapse of Marco Rubio, who wasnt a factor anywhere. Something has clearly hurt him, whether the tone of his attacks on Trump, Trumps constant belittling of him, his lackluster debate performance, or all of the above. Absent a surprise on Tuesday or a fantastic debate next week, Rubio is going to be limping into the political fight of his life in Florida a week from Tuesday.

“So what your saying, any criticism of Trump is illegitimate and all criticism Cruz is legitimate”
No. I never even hinted at that. That is known as a glittering generality.
With regard to the talk show host; he is being devious. I don’t like devious people. He says he is not a Republican so that he can be fair and balanced but he sneaks around and promotes his candidate (Cruz), engages only callers who slam Trump, and agrees wholeheartedly with them. and quickly gets rid of callers who support Trump. And repeatedly, time after time after time, claims he is worried about what the democrats have on Trump, as if Hillary Clinton is pure.
He turned his show into a Cruz campaign effort while denying he did it.
I assume he realizes it will cost him listeners.
Bears repeating. NR has not only jumped the shark, it has taken it into the bed with them!
Hey NOT genius, a proper name starts with a capital letter, you think it’s clever to write Trump’s name the way you did.
See you at the Mensa meeting, not.
Well i never heard of the man but it is his show and you apparently listen to him, either to get pissed or lauded when he’s on your side in a debate.
My advise is to stop listening, tell your friends to stop listening, start a movement of non listeners and his sponsors will fall away, thus he is no more.
Until then your characterization of his duplicity has fallen on def ears here, not because i disagree, but because i don’t know who your talking about.
Being successful at changing minds, even with duplicitous intentions is no crime!
My point remains the same, true then, and true now.
Trump’s claims are completely different than Reagan’s or Goldwater’s. Trump’s style is completely different than Reagan’s or Goldwater’s. Trump’s background is completely different than Reagan’s or Goldwater’s.
Just because someone else in the past claimed that Jimmy Carter was a communist, it doesn’t mean that the label doesn’t fit when people today make the same claim against Bernie Sanders.
Bernie is not Jimmy. Trump is not Reagan. Trump is not Goldwater. Trump is Trump. Labels attached to the other two may or may not fit, but whether they apply to them has nothing to do with whether they apply to trump.
No, I was responding to your claim about how I thought criticism of Cruz was legitimate and any criticism of Trump was illegitimate.
Of course you don’t know the guy; but he makes out that he is so far above duplicity, too Christian to engage in that sort of thing. In my book, duplicity reveals character.
And of course I will no longer listen to him; I was only monitoring him during this season.
EXCLUSIVE!!! You heard it here first. It’s over for Trump.
Personifying the definition of insanity, Lowry shows that when everyone thinks the same thing, nobody thinks.
I don't know how you know that. Makes no sense to me unless they dread Ted.
It would be surprising to me if the vast majority of Rubio votes don't go to Cruz.
I heard an analyst say that on CNN. I can’t remember which race after he dropped out, But, they said that exit polls showed that a majority went to Trump. I was shocked too. I thought that they would be mad at him for driving Bush out and go with someone else.
Love it!
It is a cliche to attack the source on articles favorable to Cruz or against Trump.
The Trumpers somehow think they are taking it to The Man by voting Trump.
Sad, really, because Cruz is far anti-establishment and is an actual conservative.
Maybe there is a good reason National Review doesn’t like Trump.
I don’t like him either.
I know. It should be against the law to post anything that is against our lord and savior, Donald Trump.
It kinda is against the law here...so many Cruz supporters seem to be given ‘time outs’ or had their posts put in chat.
Yes. Get rid of early voting.
I promise not to hurl an insult at your or even gently toss an insult at you.
But the point about Trump supporters is that they never address any issue about Trump.
They simply dive right into discrediting the source or attacking Cruz.
Frankly, I think the Trumpers are meaner but ...
I would pay good money to see Cruz debate Trump one on one.
He manages to get through multiple candidate debates by constant babbling. The debates have been run so badly.
It’s obvious that Trump does not have the self discipline to stay quiet while others are talking so there should be a way to cut off his mike.
Trump, aided a bit by Rubio, has made the debates an embarrassing circus saved only by Ted Cruz calm, reasoned points.
Breathe Trump, breathe.
Wouldn’t that be nice. But no, Cruz will not drop out. He’s only a few delegates behind.
Rubio voters would definitely go to Cruz.
Nobody knows what the heck Kasich voters would do.
