It was a great night for Ted Cruz, and an encouraging one for opponents of Trump. The Texan won a smashing victory in Kansas and an unexpected one in Maine. Trump took Kentucky and Louisiana, the bigger states today, but only by narrow margins. The finish in Louisiana was particularly noteworthy. Trump had built up a big lead in the early voting, so big that the networks called it for Trump almost immediately on that basis, but Trumps margin steadily eroded away as the votes that has been cast today came in. This was a sign that something had hurt Trump over the last several daysthere are many things to choose from, but the debate looms particularly large. (The divergence between the early voting and the voting today is also a textbook case of why early voting is a bad idea.) Cruzs big margins in his states and Trumps narrow margins in his states mean, importantly, that Cruz gained on him a bit in the delegate count.
The other big story was the collapse of Marco Rubio, who wasnt a factor anywhere. Something has clearly hurt him, whether the tone of his attacks on Trump, Trumps constant belittling of him, his lackluster debate performance, or all of the above. Absent a surprise on Tuesday or a fantastic debate next week, Rubio is going to be limping into the political fight of his life in Florida a week from Tuesday.

If early voting is such a bad idea why not have all primaries across the country
on the same day just as the general election is held? Pot - Kettle seems appropriate
to this guys analysis to me.
Why? The gope need's its collective ass kicked, we all agree on that. As a Cruzer that last week switched to Trump, I'd love to see a Trump/Cruz ticket.
This would be both a good ticket to run on, but even a better duo for President/ Vice President.
If the demonRATs lodged a court challenge to the eligibility of Cruz and were successful, no problem, drop Ted and replace him while retaining his backers{who would be extremely motivated}.
If he passes the court challenge, we have a 16 year period of amazing change {most of which would be fantastic, some might make us cringe}.
I think Cruz and his legal training could be a yuge benefit but we know that the gope would be terrified of getting cross ways with these two {as would the demonRAT congress critters}.
Our Michigan primary is Tuesday. I am hopeful Cruz takes it. After the last debate and Cruz’s speech at CPAC, people are seeing the gravitas he brings. I am grateful for Trump who broke the back of the establishment and rid us of the RINO candidates. If the next debate is just Cruz and Trump he will be no match for Cruz. I see Trump as the Paul Revere waking people up and Cruz as the general we need to lead our country.
Interesting how supporters see the Saturday results.
Trump Supporters: Cruz Still Can’t Beat Trump.
Trump won the bigger and more significant states while Cruz won the smaller, less significant ones.
Cruz Supporters: Cruz won 64 delegates while Trump won 49.
Cruz’s margin of victory in the states he won is BIGGER, while he was close in the states he lost.
One wants to see what one wants to see.
Once Rubio drops out, Trump is done.
The way Cruz cheated Carson is unforgivable. Same atrocious qualities as the common thief! And yet, Carson did better than the polls predicted. Only Trump did worse than expectations, as he has done throughout the primary season so far.
Why?
The world is already on a precipice. Just what we need is a bull in the china closet.
Fact is, the world is as wound up right now as it was in the late 1930’s. We are in VERY dangerous times. Trump’s “ideas”, what few he has, don’t look like they will solve problems so much as set a match to them. We can’t afford that. Literally.
Yes, lets. The 3 states yesterday had polling that Cruz beat by 10-19% in the actual vote.
What was interesting is that Trump won LA because of the early voting. Cruz beat Trump among the people who did not participate in the early voting.
Trump won the only primary. Cruz supporters are delusional.
Are you suggesting that Cruzers do not get a little crazy...
Same thing here. I can’t tell you how many times I try to bring up valid points in favor of Cruz and against Trump and get the name calling and projection from the Trump supporters. They don’t want to hear it.
Sure, some Cruzers do it too. But it is not the MO of the Cruz side. They really do have facts on their side. The trump people just like what he says, just as Obama supporters liked obama in 2008.
And both parties, as well as Obama’s utter incompetence, have set us up for a version of Obama that really IS dangerous to our very survival. If the old “jump from the frying pan into the fire” meme ever applied, it is now.
And make no mistake: Trump is no conservative. He WILL be your political enemy on a LOT of issues. Important ones.
Imagine him as president. Then what?

You're falling prey to another one of Trump's lies. Cruz did NOT "cheat" Carson. He simply aggressively circulated a CNN report on Carson's schedule. Indeed, Carson did NOT continue the campaign that night. He went home for a rest. I don't blame Carson for that, but it does not make Cruz a "cheater".
Cruz has an excellent organization for caucuses and is one of the beneficiaries of all the news, advertising and party vitriol toward Trump. Yet, Trump, still won the two largest states, the only primary and the most votes total combining the four states.
I hope Cruz and Teump get their wish and Rubio and Kasich drop out leaving just the two of them standing to fight it out. That would be special.
It’s because people who make up there mind early don’t have all the facts, time can change things. Trump could say something like ‘I have a really big dick’ and threaten to whip it and show everyone. People who voted early might think why did I do that, too late now!
I am happy how this is playing out, so far. Yes I support Trump but my second choice would be Cruz, in fact, more so if the eligibility matter was not a concern to me as I know Hitlery, if she is the candidate, will dwell on it.
It is going to be a funny election if either of these two win. I see Trump drawing many votes from the dems, interestingly and his having a lot of support in the urban areas. Cruz on the other hand, will do well in the hinterlands and should bring back to the table many of the hard core conservatives who, and rightly so, saw Mitt as a squish. Now then, a combination of both would be a nightmare for the dems IMO. Funny it could come down at the end, with a trump on the top of the ticket, of his carrying NY denying Hitlery that jewel. I don’t think it matters in Cal whom the GOP nominates as it is a ball in the high weeds for us but if we garner Texas, Florida, NY and Ohio along with a solid south and southwest and Rocky mtn states, Hitlery goes home before the polls close in the Pacific time slot. For this to happen, we just need keep Kasick on the reservation.
