It reads over 50% in each of at least 8 states to me.

However, if anyone has the required number of delegates (1,144) going into the convention it would be an uproar if that candidate was not nominated.

Each candidate for nomination for President of the United States and Vice President of the United States shall demonstrate the support of a majority of the delegates from each of eight (8) or more states, severally, prior to the presentation of the name of that candidate for nomination.

Does this mean a candidate doesn't need a majority of the delegates, only a majority of the delegates from each of at least 8 States? This would mean that if a candidate could win at least 8 winner-take-all States, that candidate would be the nominee even if he did not have a majority of the nationwide total of delegates.

I don’t think Trump has any states with 50% plus.

South Carolina for starters. He'll get plenty more when the northeastern winner take all votes take place.

It means that for the name to be placed for nomination, he has to have that many states. Ostensibly, that would be to avoid having 14 candidates submitted. However, setting the bar at eight is very high. The winner still needs a majority of the seated delegates.

If entering the convention it’s 1000/800 Trump/Cruz, then effectively, a brokered convention is up to Cruz. Will Cruz step aside and support Trump, or would Cruz instead try to win a brokered convention? If Cruz does support Trump yet Trump loses a brokered convention anyway....yikes, I don’t even want to go there.

I see Trump rolling up a majority of delegates before the convention, so all this brokerage talk is just that. What will happen is that a lot of party regulars won’t attend the convention, or even hold a competing event.

“If they push a brokered convention they might well end up with nothing.”

Not “might BB, “Will! And the nothing might just be the end of the GOP as a party. Like a lot of folks, I’m still a registered Republican ( but I quit giving them any money back when Slick was pres), but the day after they screw Trump, I would re-register indy and never go back.

Never negotiate with traitors and treasonists. It’s in the Constitution . . . probably, somewhere . . . and if not, it should be.

Good to hear someone thinking about the Constitution and not being accused of being a "Birther". In Article III Section 3 "Treason" is defined in the Constitution, the only term Madison and company decided to define in the document itself, leaving other terms for interpretation by the Supreme Court because only in that way can the meaning of the framers be preserved.

That is why the reinterpretation of natural born citizen to seat Obama, and consider Cruz, Rubio, Jindal, or Haley shows disdain for the Constitution.

It would not be pretty. I would assume that is Cruz sees no path to victory at the convention he will do the right thing for the party and the country. I imagine that either Cruz beats Trump outright in the primaries (lots of primaries to go, including the big one in CA. Last poll I saw Cruz was basically dead even with Trump there)of comes to some sort of understanding with Trump. We do not want the nomination to be worth nothing but a box of ashes.

A long way to go, on both sides. By July we might be looking at a completely different opponent on the Dem side. If Hillary is indicted she will not be the dem nominee. Then, theirs will make our fight look like a picnic!
