It sounds like the NYTs and Buzzfeed conspired with Trump to Rickroll Cruz and Rubio.
On the one hand, there ARE legit questions for Trump. What are the criteria for his proposed pause in work visas (ie., how long is it, what would the employment situation in the US have to look like for it to end, etc.)? If “good” illegals go back home, do they get to apply to come back before those who are already legally in line? Are current legal immigration caps too high, too low, or about right? Etc.
OTOH, we have some people here on FR who, even if Trump had some illegals burned at the stake to demonstrate his intent, they’d say he was not serious.
Well, for one thing, if my proposal was criticized, I might point out, say, the true employment situation in the US, as affected by illegals and abuses of work visas, and then say “what would you do?”. Such a discussion would almost have to be off the record, because it would be very likely a comment or question would be taken out of context.
Sometimes, one just has a B.S. session. Political foes are not always personal enemies in what’s left of the normal / rational world.
If I understand the situation correctly, the conversation went off and back on the record repeatedly. No one bothered to switch the recorder off and on.
So Buzzfeed fed false info into the conversation? Then NYT quoted Buzzfeed?
