House Speaker Paul Ryan said he "laughed out loud" at Donald Trump's Super Tuesday comment that the Wisconsin Republican would "pay a big price" if he couldn't work with him.
"Sometimes, reality is stranger than fiction around here these days," Ryan told reporters at his weekly press conference. The speaker said he watched Trump's comments from his office. Trump did not elaborate on his Ryan comment.
Ryan has publicly rebuked Trump twice during this presidential nomination contest. First, for calling for a ban on Muslims entering the U.S., and then this week for Trump's failure to distance himself quickly enough from white supremacists who support his campaign. Trump stated he disavowed those groups.
Ryan says he is committed to working with whoever the voters decide is the Republican nominee. He described himself as a "good-natured guy" who can work with anyone.
Ryan's comments were in stark contrast to his friend and former running mate Mitt Romney, who at the same time Thursday, issued a broadside against Trump.
Romney said the real estate mogul is unfit for office and suggested a contested convention may be in order to make sure he does not become the nominee.
Trump is the frontrunner for the Republican nomination with more state wins and more delegates than any other GOP contender. Party leaders, however, are reluctant to grant Trump that status.
Meanwhile, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., told reporters Thursday that House Republicans fostered a climate that allowed Trump to rise.

No idea what you just intended to say. Try again.
Oh goody, another vindictive President. Just what we need. SMH
Do keep screaming child, you, and our antics, are one of the best Trump vote getter on this site.
Thank you for your permission. Now go back to your resentful little life.
Not a big fan of Ryan, but I have to wonder if Trump has thought about the fact that Ryan, along with the rest of Congress can actually impeach and remove him from office. Considering that Trump is always bragging about how he “gets along with everybody”, comments like this make one wonder about that. And I also wonder what Trump means when he says Ryan will “have to pay a big price”. Is that some sort of threat? I’m not sure I want a President who openly intimidates and threatens people.
Trump sounded like he was joking around a bit to me.
Regardless that Ryan has heard the Constitution read out loud in the House at the beginnings of the last three legislative sessions, and regardless that he has taken the oath to protect and defend the Constitution, the House under Speaker Ryan nonetheless blatantly ignored the following with respect to its passing of the Omnibus spending bill.
The House wrongly ignored the clarification of a previous generation of state sovereignty-respecting justices that Congress is prohibited from appropriating taxes in the name of state power issues, essentially any issue that Congress cannot justify under its constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers.
Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States. Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
Remember in November !
When patriots elect Trump, Cruz, or whatever conservative they elect, they need to also elect a new, state sovereignty-respecting Congress that will not only work within its Section 8-limited powers to support the new president, but also protect the states from unconstitutional federal government overreach, including putting a stop to unconstitutional federal taxes.
Also, consider that such a Congress would probably be willing to fire state sovereignty-ignoring activist justices.
Ryan can walk this smear back first.
He knows Trump is not a KKK supporter. This was a smear of the worst order. Shame on Ryan. I have zero respect for him.
Actually, both can do this, whether either side gets anywhere is another story. Remember, the DOJ is under the authority of the President.
That it, if at first you fail, fail post again and again and again.
The 1st 5000 bile laced emotional tirades without a shred of fact or reason in them did not work so doubtlessly the 5001 such post will finally mange to land some of this childish attack bot vomit you puke up someplace other then your own shirt front.
And exactly why should Ryan care about Trump’s threats?
He shouldn’t: because Ryan will be unemployed after losing (to a Democrat) his bid for re-election in November at the same time the rest of America is electing President Trump!
Q: how can you tell Ted Cruz has been to your house?
A: There’s a shaming letter on your front door.
Huh? What you sayin?
At this point, he's expressing contempt for 1/3 (Trump voters) of 1/3 (Republicans), or 1/9 of the voters.
I realize this an unpleasant fact for Trump supporters, but it is a fact.
What he actually did was laugh in the face of Trump supporters.
Isn’t “mange” a dog condition?
Sure. Impeachment for the GOP front runner by these establishment cowards, but it was "off the table" for the treasonous, lawless, homosexual Muslim.
