In a 80/20 future society, 20% of the population will be employable the rest offer zero value to an employee, you are going to need a massive welfare state.

Elect Trump and he will protect good paying American jobs from robots by placing a 45% tariff on robots.

Time to learn how to build and repair robots.

I know if you are a mechanic who can work on electric and hybrid vehicles you can have multiple job offers around here.

Many years ago I came across an article in an AI journal that discussed this same question. It said that in the future, instead of working, people would make money by owning robots. But it seems likely that only a small minority of people will be involved in owning robots.

When everything necessary for life is produced by automatic labor, you really have no other choice but to institute a welfare state and limit the population (until you can expand to other planets).

I forsee people having their biometrics registered (better than chip implants) to get welfare/housing/etc and being placed on mandatory birth control until being allowed to reproduce.

In theory, you can give all people a free standard of living like the richest 1% today. However, the super rich will definitely get greedy and corral the common people into the most minimal ghettos while they build endless estates.

IMO, artificial intelligence will be the death of freedom for most of the population. It should be banned globally but there is no chance to stop other nations from developing it and threatening those who don’t. Much like nuclear weapons...

Why?

There are pleny of things people can do that robots don’t do. Arts and crafts for instance. Or tech support (gonna need a lot of that...).

In any case I wouldnt’t on those robots panning out. They have some serious limitations.

“We no longer live in a world of nations and ideologies, Mr. Beale. The world is a college of corporations, inexorably determined by the immutable bylaws of business. The world is a business, Mr. Beale. It has been since man crawled out of the slime. And our children will live, Mr. Beale, to see that perfect world in which there’s no war or famine, oppression or brutality — one vast and ecumenical holding company, for whom all men will work to serve a common profit, in which all men will hold a share of stock, all necessities provided, all anxieties tranquilized, all boredom amused.”
