My advice to women alone on an elevator is to get off the elevator if it stops and a man gets on. And I warn them that they will have to suppress 12 years of public school indoctrination to have the courage to do that if the guy getting on the elevator is a minority because it will be viewed as racist. But if this woman had done that, she would not have been stabbed. Or at least she would have had a chance.

Very good advice. Many years ago Oprah Winfrey did an excellent special on personal safety, and that was one of the things she discussed. That was during her pre-racial days.
Something she said at that time stuck with me: Your safety is more important than their feelings.
Commuter train centers are notorious for violent crime. Don’t use public transportation and if you must, take the stairs, not the elevators. Buy a car!!!!
