The Republican Party was in a state of pandemonium Wednesday as a clutch of independent groups scrambled to throw together a last-ditch effort to deny Donald Trump the presidential nomination, even as some party figures concluded it was now too late to stop the billionaire mogul.
The decentralized and desperate stop-Trump campaign found a possible new leader in Mitt Romney, the partys 2012 presidential nominee, who is expected to deliver a forceful, top-to-bottom indictment of Trump in a speech on Thursday.
In a flurry of conference calls and meetings, top Republican donors and strategists laid plans for a multimillion-dollar assault on the front-runner in a series of states holding contests on March 15. Ground zero is Florida, where home-state Sen. Marco Rubio, the leading establishment candidate, is going all in to defeat Trump, who leads in the polls there.

I think their will be a unanimous backlash against Romney, he missed the field goal last time, or as Donald would say, he choked.
The Uniparty is in a PANIC!! They are all showing their DEMOCRAT side, and it’s UGLY!!
Who cares what Mittens says. He blew his chance.

Open Letter on Donald Trump from GOP National Security Leaders
The statement above was coordinated by Dr. Eliot A. Cohen, former Counselor of the Department of State (20078) and Bryan McGrath, Managing Director of The FerryBridge Group, a defense consultancy (and adviser to Mitt Romneys 2012 presidential campaign).

Hillary is the lesser evil, by a large margin, said Eliot Cohen, a former top State Department official under George W. Bush and a strategic theorist who argues for a muscular U.S. role abroad. Trump’s election would be an unmitigated disaster for American foreign policy,” Cohen said, adding that “he has already damaged it considerably.
Cohen, an Iraq war backer who is often called a neoconservative but said he does not identify himself that way, said he would “strongly prefer a third party candidate” to Trump, but added: “Probably if absolutely no alternative: Hillary.”
When Romney was supposed to make the field goal he hid in the locker room.
Seriously he is the loser, the choker, all flash and no fire.
In their comments you can smell the fear.
This movement could conceivably go all the way to “hanging traitors from lamp posts”, which would be awesome, BTW.
Of course dredging up the guy the evangelicals gave the election to Obama rather than vote for is helpful. I guess he’s going to tell us what a mean old bad boy Trump is.
The GOPe need to remember just how angry they made conservatives when they pulled their garbage against Chris McDaniel in Mississippi. I know a lot of people that left the party then. If they pull something like that nationally, the Republican Party will be lost for a long time.
Many of us held our noses voting for McCain and Romney. The one they pushed on us after four years to prepare for this election was Jeb? Unreal. Now the one they’re pushing is Rubio? othermthan being a political yap dog, what has he ever accomplished?
The GOPestablishment is a clown show. They got Trump to pledge loyalty to the party if he’s not the nominee. They seem to have great difficulty offering the same loyalty in return. They made commitments to Trump but seem to have a hard time remembering — sort of like the do with voters.
The Republican Party leadership doesn’t care what the voters want. I would suggest to them that they start to LISTEN. Otherwise, the GOP may pay a great price for many years.
Close the tax exemption for Romney’s church/businesses and see how wealthy he is.
Romney lost on purpose, like McCain. The GOP knew they could raise more money and secure more votes (thus their re-election) by using Obama as a tool for red-meat no-win issues.
It was Bush’s turn, the neocons and globalists did not anticipate Trump or Cruz to clean his clock. Second best is Hillary, she will keep both parties locked in a mock fight and the campaign contributions will keep on rolling in to both the D’s and R’s and their respective machines.
The RNC has sent Romney out to take sissy-swipes at Trump. Why exactly does the RNC not want a Republican to win the nomination?
Mittens?
Count me out - I will never back him and never support him for another run for President.
His time has passed. And if he is the best the GOP has on offer, then the GOP needs to die.
NO MORE MITTENS!!!
Their posturing belies their terror. They don’t want an outsider ruining their insider games, their complete dereliction of duty.
because he threatens their exclusive little club. Notice how the Senators are the most intransigent. That’s fear you’re seeing.
Bingo.
It wasn’t the evangelicals, polls right after the election showed that evangelicals did turn out in usual numbers to vote, and I doubt that conservative evangelicals voted for Hussein, whose “pastor” said “God damn America”.
“The Republican Party was in a state of pandemonium Wednesday”;
that GOPe leadership is holding classes to teach members to how to say, “Madam President”
Got a better finish to that leading phrase?
The GOP has three factions in this election cycle - Conservatives, the establishment, and Trump mutineers. Each faction wants to believe that the other two are conspiring.
