Among the Trumpies, if you are not worshiping the ground The Donald walks on, that automatically makes you a “RINO.” It doesn’t matter if you’ve been a staunch conservative your whole life; opposing Trump makes you “GOPe.”

My problem is that I don’t think Trump is conservative enough. And I’m not sure if I can trust Cruz.

But the Trump juggernaut really leaves one with little choice.

It seems you are absolutely right. The ironic thing is that Trump may be a Republican in name only.

GOPe(stablishment) seems to be the meme of the year. The definition seems to be nothing more than opposing Trump (as you said).

Kruschev came up with the term “cult of personality” after he came to power as he criticized the excesses under Stalin.

I think the term applied to Peron in Argentina. After Peron’s death, “right-wing Peronistas” clashed with “left-wing Peronistas” in the streets. I laughed at the time at foolish Argentinians who supported a man without knowing what he stood for.

Trump has the Cult of Personality. That may not be new in America, FDR and Obama come to mind. But it is new in the Republican party IMO.

Yes, a lot of Republicans admire Ronald Reagan, but they can point to specific priorities that distinguished him from liberal Democrats. These priorities were conservative before, during, and after Reagan’s 8 years in office. So it wasn’t a cult of personality for Reagan. It was an adherence to long-standing conservative beliefs, values and priorities.
