The Mexican government has placed six states on high alert following the theft of a vehicle with radioactive material. That alert comes less than a year after Mexico had an almost identical case where authorities throughout most of southern Mexico spent days searching for the missing material.
The warning was issued on Sunday evening by Mexicos Secretariat of the Interior, just one day after the theft of a commercial pickup that had been transporting industrial material, including a yellow container with a rod of Iridium-192.

(CNN) -- A Chinese expert in nuclear medicine has been given a suspended death sentence after he was convicted of using radioactive iridium to poison a colleague, state media has reported.
Gu Tianming, who worked at a hospital in southern China's Guangdong province, forged official papers to buy the iridium which he then placed in the office of a male business partner, the Xinhua news agency reported.
Gu had apparently been involved in a dispute with the man -- a business partner named only as Liu in the report -- and decided to take revenge on him.
The two had been joint managers of a laser medical center in a Guangdong hospital.
Aided by his subordinate, Gu placed a quantity of iridium 192, a radioisotope used in medicine, in the ceiling of Liu's office.
Within days Liu was complaining of memory loss, fatigue and a loss of appetite.
He also developed bleeding gums and was found to have an abnormal white blood cell count -- all symptoms of exposure to high levels of radiation.
Before an inspection eventually uncovered the source of the poisoning, another 74 hospital staff fell ill, many of them reporting similar symptoms.
Finding Gu guilty of seeking to poison his colleague, the court sentenced him to death with a two year probation, Xinhua reported.
His subordinate, Fang Zhenhua, who helped in the purchase and placement of the iridium, was convicted by the same court and sentenced to 15 years in jail.
I’m sure the open borders crowd are not concerned.
Is this series?
Raising money to build the Wall
It is very hugh and series, and will stune your beeber when a loose moose eats the radioactive stuff and bites your sister.
Thailand?
Ir-192 is very commonly used as a gamma source for industrial radiography.
Its use is pretty tightly controlled up here. Who knows in Mexico. The article doesn’t say how much quantity. If just one “pig,” then mostly a hazard to the thieves if they don’t know how to handle it.
Hey, but a Mexico-lover here on FR told me the country has more billionaires than America!
Suspended death sentence? Does that mean he will be suspended by rope?
What?
“Robocop” was so prophetic.<p.
“I’d buy that for a dollar”.= Trump.
How is it we border such a third world corrupt hell hole? How is it that politicians believe the best thing for America is to open the border to that same third world corrupt hell hole? Yes. I have been to Mexico and know wonderful people there. But we aren’t responsible for Mexico.
Wanna bet it’s already been driven across the border by an OTM?
We gotta get Sean Penn on this case, and quickly!
:-P :-)
Not to worry, it’s just the Muslim Jihadists stealing it to use on the U.S. when they flood through the border since Obunghole told the guards to stand down.
I’ll have to admit that you touched on almost all of the old FR humor themes except the the pool potty reference.
I missed that one ... and given the brief description - I’m glad.
Two year suspended death sentence.
They have death sentence vans in China.
When they swing by it’s time for you to check out. They need time to match up your organs for optimal harvest.
Coming soon.
Thought I was kidding? Wiki:
Execution Van:
The execution van, also called a mobile execution unit, was developed by the government of the People’s Republic of China and was first used in 1997. There is evidence that mobile execution chambers existed before 1997: the state of Delaware in the United States of America purchased a mobile lethal-injection chamber in 1986.[1] The prisoner is strapped to a stretcher and executed inside the van. The van allows death sentences to be carried out without moving the prisoner to an execution ground. The vans also require less manpower per execution, requiring four persons to assist with the injection.[2] The PRC states that the vans are more humane than previous forms of execution. Human-rights groups predict that the execution rate in China will increase because of mobile capital punishment.[3]
OK, that’s great, but I have to take a shower.
