Romney/Dole 2016
lol...good one.
Here’s the rest.
They haven’t got any of mine as I pick those who I feel share what I value.
Romney wouldn’t do any better than Bush did, what, 3%?
They asked Dole first but he was busy...
he’ll make for interesting political theater and help our narrative and he’ll end up helping Donald Trump. I think he should jump in.
if the GOPe is scared K street is mortified just how i like it
If true, and I don't know if it is, this would demonstrate just how out of touch the establishment is.
Amazing...here is someone who is bringing in more people to the republican party than ever before and this is what they’re thinking about? Trying to scr#w him over and the people who voted in the primaries is not the right move.
I already voted for Romney once. Screw him.
“Insanity.”
Agreed. Mitt got spanked last time, but the GOP thinks he’ll fare better this time?

What’s that old saying? “The definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing over and over again but still expecting different results in very time.”
They have been trying everything they could think of to crush him all along. After Tuesday it will have NO effect.....same as it has been all along. They no longer have any teeth!
You must have meant this form of crush:
If Mitt comes in, the deal is off and Trump can run as an independent.
I hope I’m just “being paranoid”, too, when I bring up the idea that Trump needs to make darn sure his security is top notch. Cars can apparently accelerate mightily and crash into trees and explode, planes can seem to fall out of the air, and he ought to think about getting a “food” taster. If anything happens to Trump it may just bring on a revolution I fear.
McConnell needs to be Cantorized next time he runs.
It's Trump who is crushing the media and playing them like a fiddle. If Romney is drafted it will be a landslide for Hillary. He couldn't defeat Obama after four years of his destructive and arrogant policies. Why the GOPe think Romney can save them from Hillary is beyond me. All I can think is that they prefer Hillary over Trump and it will be business as usual for both sides of the aisle.
So much so I can't even imagine who these people might be. How do you become rich and yet be so clueless?
I am not to worried about a Mitt spoiler. I am hopeful that sometime around Wednesday morning we will be seeing a large number of GOPe politicians caving. They made a last gasp effort and it is looking more and more like it came up short.
I seems like Trump is able to react quicker than his competitors are able to. It seems like every day Trump changes the dialog with something new and the rest of them are seen talking about yesterday’s news which no one really wants to hear. It feels like the last “debate” was a month ago. I wonder who will be left at the next one?
I wouldn’t worry too much about this article’s scenario. Trump is consolidating support, and will soon be over 50%. They may have tried this had the race been more competitive, but if Trump dominates tomorrow like it appears he is going to, any scenario involving a late contender is unlikely to be pursued.
A more realistic scenario is this. Romney, and other high profile establishment Republicans, try to aggressively hamstring Trump all the way to the convention. The goal is not to defeat Trump in his quest for the nomination, but rather to have him perceived as a damaged candidate. After the nomination, these establishment Republicans will throw their weight behind an independent bid, much like the Republicans did to Reagan with Anderson. Whereas Anderson was a weak candidate, and the whole 3rd party bid was a rushed affair, this will be well planned and aggressively implemented.
If I had to guess, I would say it will be either Bloomberg, or possibly someone like Jim Webb. The Republicans will want someone who can appear to be independent (at least, one that will pass the red-face test). I don’t expect Romney, or any Republican retread, since they need someone who can capture establishment Republican voters, and also Democrats worried about Hillary. The establishment Republicans will nominally support Trump, but behind the scenes they will be supporting Bloomberg (or whoever), and the donor base, who can act independently, will be actively and publicly supporting Bloomberg.
The goal is to make the general election a scorched-earth affair: the unpopular Dem vs. the damaged and dangerous Trump, vs. the sane independent backed by the sane professional political class. Their goal won’t be to elect Bloomberg, but rather to siphon enough votes from Trump to allow Hillary to win by default.
