Remember when Barack Obama promised the world in 2008, only to leave some enthusiasts bereft after he failed to close Guantanamo, much less slow the rise of the oceans?
If we elect a President Donald Trump, you ain't seen nothing yet when it comes to disillusionment.
Imagine the fury among his supporters when their outsized hero is exposed as a huckster who cashes the check as soon as the car is off the lot.
The brash billionaire has sold I-can-fix-it-just-you-watch pledges to millions of voters enraged about a steady stream of hollow political promises. To them, Trump towers as the man who means what he says and who will finally, after a long line of empty suits, deliver.
Fully 43% of Republican voters see him as the candidate most likely to get things done in Washington -- more than double the number who have confidence in his next closest rival.....

If Trump can't/won't get everything he tells you he will do, why waste your vote for something that is so vague, no substance, you really do not know what he stands for, you really don't? He don't either.
Just curious as to how his supporters are going to feel when he fails bigger than Obama.
How about sue them?
It didn't work with Schwarzenegger. He went Liberal P*SSY within about a year.
I just keep remembering that North-Eastern Republicans with lots of society and finance connections do not normally adhere to conservative ideas on anything.
What proof do you have of that?
They will never admit it before they leave FR.
I am hoping that as well. But first I am hoping Cruz gets the nomination instead.
Ain’t nothing wrong with rednecks.
I’m a city boy, and my mom remarried when I was 7. She married a redneck from Anderson, South Carolina. We went there every summer for vacation until they eventually divorced when I was 16. He was a bit of a violent alcoholic.
Nonetheless, it was through these experiences that I learned that rednecks are tougher men than me, and it was a valuable lesson.
Country is good. City is bad. That’s how it is.
Absolute codswaddle. Trump is a loser jadrool and his suckups are even bigger loser jadrool halfafinochs than he is.
Especially since Trump served in Vietnam...
What have you seen that changed your mind?
But he is the best candidate America has in this election, and I support him.
I will support him if he wins the nomination, but I worry a lot about what sort of Judges he will appoint, and whether or not he will try to make "deals" with Democrats.
But also, his support team kind of treated him as having been thrown over the transom. There wasn’t any further substantive dialogue. Then years later, surprise we learned he had gone all looey AND even had a hidden mistress.
The Trump team does not HAVE to act this way. Nobody forces it to, and the Schwarzeneggar example could serve as a lesson that it shouldn’t.
That is perhaps the ugliest graphic to adorn FR.
It’s a great day to get more ammo. Of course every day is a great day to get more.
If he wins, let us hope that he doesn't follow Schwarzenegger's example.
You know Doug, this is a very salient point. One I haven't seen before.
There is WAY much more riding on this for DT to make it work than just his name his fame.
He is staking much more than just HIS reputation here.
He's putting it all out there, for himself, yes, but also for his family as well. I am sure they have all had serious discussions about this.
He screws this pooch, he tags his wife and kids forever.
quite the encentivizer to make sure things get done and done right !
That’s kind of the way it is with rednecks. They’re tough. And that means when they’re good, they’re very very good, and when they’re bad, they’re horrid. In fact it takes rednecks to deal with rednecks.
Oh I have noticed from the beginning. It is very unusual in a primary for someone to draw the crowds Trump has.
Actually, this augurs very poorly for the GOPe if they pull a stunt they are talking about at the convention. The anger is not normal politics. The crowds are not normal primary politics and you screw Trump at the convention not having beaten him fairly in the primaries you are in a dangerous position with all that anger brewing.
I have never seen this much stupidity out of the GOPe to even talk the way it has been....does nobody in Washington pay any attention to what the American populace has been buying in massive quantities in the last 8 years other than dems?
The GOPe would be much smarter to lose gracefully and work with whoever the primary winner is than play a stupid game and give us a rino. Trump will disillusion his supporters quicker than any other president in history because they only think they know who he is and what he stands for. His supporters are not listening to his words and it is absolutely bizarre. Republicans are not dems, they do not follow no matter what and that is what drives the elites crazy. They do not have the same easily led dim-bat base dems do. I can not believe this cult of personality has gone this far on the republican side. I understand when dems fall for this stuff but not republicans.
Well the “lazy body politic model” doesn’t need to keep up.
I want more than a “let us hope.”
