Death of a salesman: If Trump becomes Prez, his supporters will soon experience epic disillusionment
The New York Daily News ^ | February 27, 2016 | Josh Greenman

Posted on 02/28/2016 3:17:10 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Remember when Barack Obama promised the world in 2008, only to leave some enthusiasts bereft after he failed to close Guantanamo, much less slow the rise of the oceans?

If we elect a President Donald Trump, you ain't seen nothing yet when it comes to disillusionment.

Imagine the fury among his supporters when their outsized hero is exposed as a huckster who cashes the check as soon as the car is off the lot.

The brash billionaire has sold I-can-fix-it-just-you-watch pledges to millions of voters enraged about a steady stream of hollow political promises. To them, Trump towers as the man who means what he says and who will finally, after a long line of empty suits, deliver.

Fully 43% of Republican voters see him as the candidate most likely to get things done in Washington -- more than double the number who have confidence in his next closest rival.....

If he builds the wall, deals with the illegals, and is pro American, I will not be disappointed.

I have already been experiencing disillusionment from the current
and past GOPe’s.

Plus it’s out of character for him not to deliver what he’s promised.

And you base that on...?

Obama's doing exactly what he said he would do... make America "not special", redistribute the wealth, bring racism back, turn us into a queer nation, etc.

Trump will be a very welcome change.

That's what we're dealing with, a real, sweeping, change from being ruled by a nobility to actually having elected representatives who do the will of the people.

Sounds wonderful. But shouldn't we get someone from outside of the existing power structure to do it?

The people or the nobility dictating to the peasents, read some history and recalibrate your imagination.

Well aware of it. Just not sure we're going to get a revolution here. Maybe a Potemkin revolution. That's what worries me.

Josh Greenman’s worried we’re going to call for ‘common sense’ restrictions on the First Amendment...

How would you define that?

All this said, his followers seem to want at least a temporary dictator to restore the country they want. Then he can go away. Yeah, right.

Well stated, and true. You know, I was called "moron" and told I was "off my meds" on another thread for pointing out that these Trump supporters want a temporary dictator, and that things will go swell until the dictator turns on the people. But those who forget history will get to go to the remedial School of Hard Knocks.

>>This is the best election of my lifetime, no doubt<<

I agree. I am enjoying this very much. Not much for the insults and divisiveness I must say. We're all on the same team.

It's all good. If you support Trump...ok. Don't run others in the ground for voting their conscience. Heck, North Korea demands we all vote for the fat boy maniac. Not America.

May the best man win...right?

Well we are between a rock and a hard place. Do we want a strong willed president or don’t we?

Sometimes they do make sense even if they do wild things. Imagine a Jimmy Carter trying to run a WWII.

Trump doesn’t give a tinker's damn about the Constitution. He's authoritarian and opposed to much of the Bill of Rights if they present any difficulty to him. Unless he becomes pretty much a dictator, he won’t get that much done.

Applause. And hold on, you're about to be attacked by the Trump Brigades.

Anyhow, Trump will have over an order of magnitude more watchers.

True, but to which ones will he listen? People like us, or the Empire builders of the Empire State? Or the Golden State?

I really don't think that is possible.

Trump will not be a failure.

Obama pretty much achieved most of his goals. Those goals were making America fail. He has done that.

I don't want a strongman as President. I want a return to Constitutional order. Trump will not and cannot deliver that.

But we are about to find out, because Trump will win. Hell, I might even vote for him, just for the entertainment.

Plus it’s out of character for him not to deliver what he’s promised. And you base that on...?

The Art of the Deal: ""You can't con people, at least not for long," Trump writes. "You can create excitement, you can do wonderful promotion and get all kinds of press, and you can throw in a little hyperbole. But if you can't deliver the goods, people will eventually catch on."

In addition as a developer he MUST deliver what he promises. If he promises under contract to have something built in a certain amount of time for a certain cost. He can't lie. H e can't fudge. To do so would cause him countless legal and possible criminal problems. Contrast that with a politician who can lie and do lie with impunity when they promise something.

Ultimately, Trump’s sense of honor will dictate that.

What does he consider worth the most, when push comes to shove.

He is a sinner, with some failings and some fortes. Some of Trump’s better side is actually pointed up by the attempted lies of some of his opponents.

They don’t get it. After 7 years of Obama, my expectations are pretty low. Having a POTUS who loves America will fulfill my dream. If he builds a wall and stops the invasion it’s a bonus.
