In a 1990 Playboy interview, Trump has unexpected support for the Chinese response to the Tiananmen Square uprising.
Trump also had some withering criticism of the Soviet Unions former leader Mikhail Gorbachev for not being firm enough.
Heres a transcript:
What were your other impressions of the Soviet Union?
I was very unimpressed. Their system is a disaster. What you will see there soon is a revolution; the signs are all there with the demonstrations and picketing. Russia is out of control and the leadership knows it. Thats my problem with Gorbachev. Not a firm enough hand.
You mean firm hand as in China?
When the students poured into Tiananmen Square, the Chinese government almost blew it. Then they were vicious, they were horrible, but they put it down with strength. That shows you the power of strength. Our country is right now perceived as weak
as being spit on by the rest of the world
Why is Gorbachev not firm enough?
I predict he will be overthrown, because he has shown extraordinary weakness. Suddenly, for the first time ever, there are coal-miner strikes and brush fires everywhere- which will all ultimately lead to a violent revolution. Yet Gorbachev is getting credit for being a wonderful leader and we should continue giving him credit, because hes destroying the Soviet Union. But his giving an inch is going to end up costing him and all his friends what they most cherish-their jobs.

Trump's a businessman. Of course he's going to brown nose the leaders of countries he wants to make business deals with. Just like he greases the palms of politicians from whom he expects favorable treatment.
(I think that is nonsense, personally, but it's one way Trumpeters excuse his actions.)
He’ll be really good friends with Putin.
Dictators to not rise when people are feeling fairly good about things.
They rise at a time of national angst. And there’s no question we are in such a time. And Trump has a huge advantage and that is he is not part of the DC establishment. He can be angry at what’s going on in this country like most people are.
But observing his statements, both past and present suggests, at the very least, he’ll be another big government Republican. That’s best case scenario. I suspect he will be worse
I have never been so proud to be an American as I am now. This is way bigger than Trump. I hope Trump realizes he is riding the tiger at his own risk because if he fails the people will find a nationalist leader one way or another. The prols have tasted Establishment blood. And they like it. I like it.
When Cruzers can use Tiananmen Square against Trump---YEAH! We know all about it! Abuse of power by govt! Yeah!
But on the subject of LaVoy in Oregon----CRICKETS from the Cruzer Amen Corner.
Trump’s trade war policies will lead to recession or depression. In reaction, people will turn to leftism afterward, like FDR after Hoover.
Unless Trump is just trolling us, in which case we have no idea what a vote for him stands for.
PS-—when Cruzer drops out of the race this coming Tuesday, or the next, do we still have to refer to him as Ted “The Face Of God” Ayatollah Cruz?
The elephant in the room is the question....who is pulling Trumps strings?
It seems, much to the dismay of some and the cheers of others, that Trump is attracted to the use of force. Not only against those who would harm us, which I’m ok with, but of governments against their own citizens.
He has expressed this on more than one occasion
It’s something I always expected from the left, and certainly never expected people on the right to cheer it on.
