“He made a lot more than me and I give 10%.”

Net or gross?

Gross. You’re beating the wrong horse on this one. I give to other Christian charities too. I hope I can give as much this year as last (my income does vary from year to year).

Our church helps lead people to the Lord. I believe that it is a worthy cause.

I certainly wouldn’t say a person isn’t a Christian if they don’t tithe.

I recently heard Cruz’s father on Christian radio expressing how important his faith is to him. I am rather surprised he’s been tithing only 1%.

One can’t “tithe” 1 percent: it’s 10 percent to be a real “tithe”. It’s also 10 percent of first fruits, meaning gross pay! We can say that we aren’t responsible for big government and pay 10 percent on the net, but that may not be God’s definition. Anything above 10 percent is an “offering”.

I admire you for this. I can not one-up you on this matter.
