Yikes, you really want the FCC to be able to fine any news organization or bloggers that they think has lied. Do you think that fact checkers always get everything right? Now, do you think that a liberal bureaucracy will always get things right?

Libel actions are civil actions and subject to "preponderance of evidence" standards of proof (more rather than less likely) once the plaintiff meets the high standards of actual malice and knowingly lies of the defendant.

In the arena of fines for such behavior, the plaintiff will have to prove his case "beyond a reasonable doubt" which is a much higher standard.
