Cruz is my preference, Trump is my #2.
I agree that Trump will do better with Hispanics. His bold persona connects better, and his emphasis on jobs connects better. Cruz spends a lot of time talking about other issues, which are important, but which simply don’t connect with people who aren’t otherwise political. I notice the same dynamic with my extended family, which is not Hispanic, but the way Trump is able to connect with them in a way that Cruz does not.
Cruz doesn’t emphasize his Hispanic roots in any case. Rubio does better on that score, and might do better at attracting Hispanic votes than would Cruz, but I suspect Trump’s simplicity and his close focus on jobs jobs jobs will draw more Hispanic support yet despite his other focus on border issues.
Cruz and Rubio can’t depend on the Latino vote for the same reason Alan Keyes could not depend on the Black vote when running to be to be first black POTUS.
