Why Cruz And Rubio Can't Count On The Latino Vote
NPR ^ | 2/27/2016

If Marco Rubio or Ted Cruz make it to the White House, it will be historic -- it would mean this country had its first ever Latino president.

Both Rubio and Cruz both have a Cuban background, but neither candidate can necessarily count on the support of Latino voters to win. That's because most Latinos in this country lean Democratic, even with no Latino candidate represented in the Democratic field.

During Thursday night's Republican debate in Houston, moderator María Celeste Arrarás of Telemundo asked Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas if his and Sen. Marco Rubio's campaigns were missing out on appealing to Hispanic and Latino voters with their stances on immigration.

Cruz countered by stating he had widespread Hispanic support during his senatorial campaign in Texas, while Rubio responded by saying Hispanic voters care more about more than just immigration. Rubio also noted the Republican dais had two Hispanic and one African-American presidential candidates, while the Democrats had two white candidates.

We turned to Maria de Los Angeles Torres, director and professor of Latin American and Latino Studies at the University of Illinois in Chicago, to walk us through some of the nuances.

Why Cruz And Rubio Can't Count On The Latino Vote

Because they're voting for Trump.

*********************************************************

It would also mean the 2nd Usurpation in a row and the end of the protection of requiring someone who can only be a US citizen and nothing else.

Barry Soetoro/Barack Hussein Obama should be proof enough of the wisdom of the founders when they tried to prevent him from being President by requiring someone who could only be a US citizen and nothing else.
Born here of citizen parents.
Naturally a US citizen because there is no other possibility.
One cannot be anything else and also be a natural born citizen.

Obama told us he was born a British Subject.

Who believes Washington, Jefferson, Adams, Jay, Monroe, Madison, etc. would have found him to be a natural born citizen?

Rubio and Cruz think they should get away with it because Barry Soetoro/Barack Hussein Obama got away with it.

Usurpation Day, January 20, 2009, happened with the complete cooperation of both parties.
They want the Constitution changed without the hassle of amending the Constitution.
Confuse people about the clear meaning of a three word phrase and voila, every anchor baby and Winston Chrurchill is eligible.

The bench was the reason the GOP went along with the fig leaf resolution for McCain as cover for Obama.
Jindal, Rubio, Haley and Cruz were all up and comers and the future of the party and ineligible.

Plus according to my latino friends(Brazilian and Bolivian) despite being lumped into one category, they do not feel an affinity with latinos from other countries than their own.

Cruz and Rubio are Cuban. Most latino-Americans are Mexican.

Also if you watch the Spanish speaking tv shows. Columbians speak disparaging about Mexicans and vice versa.

The Hispanic category was created by the Census Bureau, not by Latinos.

Well, the GOP is going to get blitzed on the Latino vote in the General so it really doesn’t matter much.

The likely nominee is Trump and fully 80% of potential Latino voters can’t stand him.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/politics/wapo-univision-poll-2016/en/

So any talk of any GOP Latino support is just whistling past the graveyard ... an activity that GOP voters engage in WAY too often.

, moderator María Celeste Arrarás of Telemundo

This moderator and this television station view themselves as the voice of the latino and Hispanic world and are trying to address the issues they think should be important to their viewers.

They are doing a great disservice to their viewers. They do not represent Hispanics anymore than Jesse Jackson represents all blacks.

I think the reason they are put in front of the camera is because they are very proficient with Spanish. It is a Spanish language station after all.
These Spanish talking heads are almost exclusively from Mexico or South America. Most Americans of Spanish heritage speak English primarily and Spanish as a second language. Usually by the second or third generation they are only marginally fluent in Spanish.

So Telemundo's talking heads views are mexico's views.
The un-PC description would be wet backs. They are recently arrived and immigration is a big part of their lives.

Cruz is my preference, Trump is my #2.

I agree that Trump will do better with Hispanics. His bold persona connects better, and his emphasis on jobs connects better. Cruz spends a lot of time talking about other issues, which are important, but which simply don’t connect with people who aren’t otherwise political. I notice the same dynamic with my extended family, which is not Hispanic, but the way Trump is able to connect with them in a way that Cruz does not.

Cruz doesn’t emphasize his Hispanic roots in any case. Rubio does better on that score, and might do better at attracting Hispanic votes than would Cruz, but I suspect Trump’s simplicity and his close focus on jobs jobs jobs will draw more Hispanic support yet despite his other focus on border issues.

Cruz and Rubio can’t depend on the Latino vote for the same reason Alan Keyes could not depend on the Black vote when running to be to be first black POTUS.

[Art.] Jindal, Rubio, Haley and Cruz were all up and comers and the future of the party and ineligible.

Guess Rove wanted to steal a few tricks from the Democrats by playing a solid game of Identity Politics, which would get him to the outcome on Barky described above :

"NostandingNostandingNostandingNostandingNostandingNostandingNostanding
NostandingNostandingNostandingNostandingNostanding"

.... because we want our own guys in the game.

Until we rendition and waterboard Rove, that's as close a guess as any, it seems to me.

We still need to rip that one open about Obama and find out what was his real story. If he's a foreign citizen (he could be an Indonesian citizen; that Mombasa thing was his own canard, after Bobby Rush beat him by calling him not black enough), then all his E.O.'s and legislation signatures need to come off the books, at a minimum.
