One of the things I’ve occasionally wondered over the years, never really bought into but wondered, was whether John Andersons 1980 third Party run was a negotiation tactic used to get Reagan to put Bush onto the ticket. One that couldn’t be pulled back once Bush was on the ticket.

Seems out there, I know, but things like that do happen in politics.
