I think this is more of an empty threat than an actual plan. When it comes down to it, they know that this would only hurt the GOP. I don’t expect much to come of this.
There could be a different reason for this study. It may be to see what options Trump has to run 3rd party if they push Trump too hard.
I think if not for Trump Jeb would be the leading candidate.
Without Trump this would be a content free campaign. The Media could ignore the issues and other candidates and talk about what a great governor Jeb was.
Trump made the candidates talk about what voters were interested in.

For a political forum, a lot of people here certainly don't understand modern politics.
Aggressive matters. Attacking matters. Optics matter. Social media matters. Soundbites matter. Salesmanship matters. Showmanship matters. Emotional appeal matters.
You can't just go out there and talk about the same stale tired boilerplate lectures on Conservatism.
It's why Trump is successful.
Trump has every advantage staying in the party. He is on the ballot in all states and territories that conduct primaries, he is winning. It isn’t Trump who is looking for an “in,” he has his “in.”
