Apple has formally laid out its legal defense against a court order forcing it to help the FBI unlock the iPhone of one of the San Bernardino shooters.
In a filing Thursday, Apple argued the court order violated its constitutional rights under the First and Fifth Amendments.
In its filing, released early before a Friday deadline, Apple called the "conscription" of an American company to do the government's bidding "unprecedented."

Apple to China when do you need it
This is like a phone company saying "the government can't force us to tap a phone circuit."
Uh yeah, they can.
This is like a bank saying "the government can't force us to open one of our safety deposit boxes."
Uh yeah, they can.
May end up eating the cost.
Hey Apple, those terrorists weren’t just terrorists, they were also homophobes! Now will you help with the investigation?
Rush has been talking about this endlessly, but I haven’t heard him take a side one way or the other. Only reportage.
I assume Rush is on Apple’s side, but you have to read between the lines, like when he kept talking up Rubio without explicitly endorsing him.
When a government compels a private firm to carry out a government mandated production order that is properly called ‘dirigism’.
Dirigism being the economic facet of fascism it has no place in American life and the people demanding its implementation should be both hounded out of office and permanently banned from working in any capacity for any level of government.
The government can’t force us to install seatbelts.
The government can’t force us to unlock a safe deposit box.
The government can’t force us to open an apartment door.
The government can’t force us to file income tax returns.
The government can’t force us to ...
“You can keep your code, if you like your code....”
Rush is definitely on Apple’s side and has stated as much. He is very careful about not endorsing a candidate, but any fool can see he wants Cruz. :{)
It's more like
This is like a bank saying "the government can't force us to give them the keys to open ALL of our safety deposit boxes."
No, it’s more like saying “We want the keys to your apartment building and the keys to every single lock, so we can peruse your premises and the belongings inside each apartment”.
You paid for the phone, which is private property.
You contract for and pay a private company to originate and terminate transmission to other private companies, who in turn deliver the final transmission to a privately owned device.
They have no right to the access of any information stored on the devices or any information transmitted....
Have you actually heard him say he’s on Apple’s side? I haven’t heard it (I don’t listen all the time though), and I looked at past show transcipts on his site, and didn’t see him explicitly say so.
The camel whose nose is under the tent said “But wait, they can force you to buy insurance.
++++
LOL. Surely you understand that writing code is “taxing”. That should settle the issue.
But if this case makes it to the Supreme Court nobody will be surprised when Chief Justice Roberts explains to all that the Government can indeed collect taxes from Apple in the form of code.
Bingo!
I have...and I’ve been listening lately.
Apple’s homo leader pretending to be a man? I’ll side with the FBI on this one. The queer leading the org fears the muslims working for him/ it and those buying apple products.
I disagree, irrespective of the owners sexual proclivities.
American to Apple...support islam and criminals at your peril.

I hope Apple stays strong with this.
