A white nationalist-linked super PAC issued a robocall on behalf of Republican candidate Donald Trump urging voters not to support "Cuban" opponents Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz.
The call from the American National PAC to voters in Vermont and Minnesota, which was not authorized by Trump, was voiced by William Johnson, a self-described farmer and head of the white nationalist American Freedom Party.
"The white race is dying out in America and Europe because we are afraid to be called 'racist,'" Johnson said in the call. "Donald Trump is not a racist, but Donald Trump is not afraid. Don't vote for a Cuban. Vote for Donald Trump."
Rubio's campaign said, "this is an outrageous robocall that Trump should immediately repudiate and demand that this group cease its operations."
"This is the lowest form of campaigning, and is the exact same type of dirty tricks Donald Trump has been decrying for weeks now," Rubio spokesman Alex Burgos said.
>>> Which double standards? <<<
ALL of them! Why discriminate?
Don’t be a bigot!
Advocacy groups don’t have to have any ties with the candidate, intellectually or otherwise. This is a disconnect that could wreak great havoc for some smaller campaigns, and I can see it as something that lays a tarbrush of a candidate without a single thing that can be done to stop its efforts.
Great and laudatory praise for some aspect that the target candidate would rather minimize or sweep under the rug altogether, or scurrilous attacks upon another rival candidate, none of which is founded even remotely in reality, and is swiftly disproved by an alert interested public repository of fact, can torpedo the person in whose name the advocacy is being directed.
And by law, the candidate cannot even call up and try to turn the advocate group around to either tone down or retool their message.
By careful and crafty application of the weaknesses inherent in this arrangement, it is possible to completely subvert the dialogue, to paint the “good guy” as the worst kind of criminal and reprobate. Guilt by association is supposed to be a prohibited doctrine, or at least disregarded, but we see it being used all the time.
NO.....I’m just glad nobody ever says anything offensive here on Free Republic.
Especially the Cruz supporters they just shower their opponent Trump with love and support.
+1
I’ve heard the ad replayed. It is intended to damage Trump, and adds “don’t vote for Cubans”.
