The deceased. He knew of him in the community but hadn’t met him until his brand new quad (with snow plow) died in the middle of the street. The officer helped him push it to the side of the road, good guy, chatted, now gone.

He is family friends with the officer who was shot in the ear (kids spend time together) and understands he will be fine.

Had a similar “small town” type of thing here a few years back. A couple murdered with a blunt instrument, house set on fire. Pic in the paper (folks not named yet) and I said “That looks like XXXX’s truck...” but didn’t believe it. Relative drove from six states away to kill his sister-in-law and husband-to-be, then got caught 95 miles away. It is surreal when you are close to those involved.

Park County deputies seem to be a pretty good bunch. It’s where I live.
