“A white president. A white wife. And I’m here to celebrate white history. That’s what I’m here for.”
Can you imagine if someone said that? The double standard is amazing.

The speaker of that sentence lived through actual and systematic discrimination. Her liberties as a free human being, guaranteed by our Constitution, were trampled upon by popular will and agents of the State. When she was growing up, Ben Carson could not have entered most medical schools in the nation, solely because he was black.

It is right and proper to celebrate that a member of an racial/ethnic group that was previously discriminated against was elected to the highest office in the land. Indeed, members of that racial/ethnic group have now been legitimate contenders in both major parties. Objectively this is a good thing for our nation.

That is entirely separate from the fact that the individual elected to that office has been an abysmal failure who advocates destructive policies that exacerbate racial/ethnic tensions, undermine our liberties, weaken our economy, and encourage our enemies abroad. I condemn Barack Obama for what he has done and what he believes, not for what he is genetically.
