Caution! Reloading with salvaged materials can be dangerous. The information in this article is for educational purposes only.
I recently read about the plight of people in India who struggle against reams of regulations bound with red tape to be able to fire a few rounds a year. I noticed that it is legal for India residents to reload cartridges for their own use, once they have secured the permit to legally possess a firearm.
Unfortunately, no one markets reloading supplies in India; no importation of reloading supplies is currently allowed; and reloading tools are difficult to find.
In the United States, we are blessed with multiple manufacturers of inexpensive, durable and effective reloading tools, multiple shops that sell all manner of reloading supplies over the counter; and thousands of gun shows a year, all over the country, where not only guns and ammunition, but reloading supplies are bought, sold, and traded, mostly without interference from the government.
If you want a bullet that is not made anywhere, you can, for a modest sum, contact a manufacturer to machine a custom bullet mold for you. If you find a fine rifle or pistol in an obscure caliber, you can find a way to reform brass for it, or, if necessary, machine brass cases from stock. You can pay someone to do these things for you, if you choose to do so.

Try to buy gunpowder....it’s almost impossible.
I’ve been told that currently the only current source of gunpowder on the retail level is Australia. I can’t reload simply because I can’t obtain the powder. So much with this year’s skeet shooting.
Midway is a drop shipper using Powder Valley as their source. It has caused the standard pistol powders to be sold out for 9 months in advance just about everywhere because no other supplier allows backordering on powder.
Rifle powder is easy to find, though.
And your point?
I have been buying powder primers and occasionally brass at Midway, Wideners and a few other select sights for 25 years....before Internet I would get their paper catalogs and phone my orders in. I pretty much only buy guns at gun stores.
Point is midway is pre-selling powder causing a 50% increase in prices to end users. They are not distributors, just competitors in the buyers’ market.

Your sources of information are not accurate. I’m a handloader, both rifle and pistol. Right after Sandy Hook when everything firearms related became scarce handloading consumables were also scarce. While most of the shortages were corrected within a year powder and primers were still in short supply.
All during the time of 2014 when smokeless were hard to find there was still some available. Today it is much better but still not 100% but many handloaders who shoot in competitions and thus use a large amount of ammo have on hand plenty of powder and primers to get through the next disruption in the supply chain.
In short powder is available however some particular powders are not. Hodgdon powders are generally on the shelves (Titegroup, Clays, HP-38, CFE Pistol) while some Accurate powders (AA#2) are not.
Obama is causing the prices to rise. Btw prices are considerably down and .22 rimfire Ammo is available at reasonable prices, again.
I woul say most prices on components are about what they should be taking inflation into effect.
You are very correct ammo and reloading prices are coming down.
I brought and estate out last fall and sold many thousands of rounds of loaded ammo and many pounds of powder and 10s of thousands of primers.
I sold them for 50% of retail and was glad to get rid of them all.
I am glad I didn’t wait as retail is dropping quickly.
Last time I was in Bass Pro Shop, month ago, they had powder, rifle and pistol, shotgun.
Handgun powder has been scarce, so I’ve been told, but saw it at BPS.
What’s the different between handgun powder, pistol powder,
Many shotgun powders work great in handgun cartridges,
In my usage of the terms, none.
