Thanks! I do like Classico and buy it when it’s on sale and was wondering about their Pesto. Since it’s just me, the spaghetti lasts me for a week, or until I get tired of eating it and freeze some.
I made spaghetti yesterday and tried something new and it turned out pretty well - it’s a much smaller quantity than I would get with one of the store bought sauces. I used a can of diced tomatoes with onions, green peppers and celery (not much of the last 3 or they are really small pieces), added a bit more diced onion, can of tomato sauce, garlic powder and some Italian seasonings. It’s not bad and was quick to make and very inexpensive.
If you want real Italian tomato sauce recipes PM me.
I really like fresh veggies, so will put a fresh sweet onion and some fresh green or red pepper in. I also like olives, but a few kalamata on the side works fine for that. Good cheese on top, when served. Asiago is favored here, but we have that, and Parm, and Romano, sometimes a mix is good.
I've also been known to kick it up a notch, can use diced tomato with jalapeno, or a pinch of dried habenaro in a serving size (so as to not pollute the batch for others!).
All of that is pretty cheap for a good serving. Get some good bread to go with it, a salad if you are energetic enough to make one, water or wine to wash it down - one good meal like that lasts me pretty near a whole day!
