The Pentagon is poised to submit a plan to Congress for closing the Guantanamo Bay detention facility, a spokesman said Monday.

Navy Capt. Jeff Davis said the administration will meet the Tuesday deadline for submitting a proposal for closing the facility and moving its terrorist detainees.

"We understand that the deadline is tomorrow, and it's our intent to meet it," Davis said.

The plan will call for the closure of the detention facility and lay out several options on how to do so, Davis said.

President Obama is pushing to close the prison and fulfill a long-standing campaign promise before leaving office. There are 91 detainees remaining at the prison.

"The plan is to submit to Congress what our thoughts are on the issue and what we see is a way ahead necessary to achieve the closure of Guantanamo and to specifically point out the need for legislative relief," Davis said.

Gitmo is way too nice weather anyway.
Hopefully Trump/Cruz/?? installs our next terror detention facility in N. Alaska.

Was the Guantanamo Bay Detention Center open for Business on September 10, 2001?

Didn’t think so.

As long as the majority of this Administration from the first and second terms are locked in prior to Gitmo’s closure, I’m fine with the closure.

Not in MY birth state. Keep them in Cuba. It seems for the past 7 years the military in the Pentagon are girlyboys.

I read the Canadians dropped off German POWs in the far north and didn’t even have to guard them. Just dropped off food occasionally. No way to escape.

for submitting a proposal for closing the facility and moving its terrorist detainee

As long as moving the terrorists means dropping them off in the middle of the Atlantic ocean, as the plan, I'm all for it.

HA! Too bad Joe Arpaio is so old, they could make him superintendent of the facility.

Russia sounds like a great idea. Remember the stories from a few years ago of the Kamchatka bears hunting in packs, killing and eating mine guards?

Well Obama is planning a trip to Cuba to meet with El Maximo Leader and his Mini-me, Raul. Maybe he’s going to put a big red bow on the base at Guantanamo and give it back? Be just like him to do that.
