Many Senate Republicans will want Obama’s pick just to “balance” a Cruz or Trump President...I really believe they are that evil.
I doubt it. They recognize that it's a lifetime appointment, and there's no telling now who will be elected and whether they'll get to appoint any judges.
Don't assume that a Republican will be elected this year and that there's a desire now to "balance" or offset something which may not happen.
There is some feeling that McConnell jumped the gun by saying -- without even a decent interval for mourning or an opportunity to ask the Senators -- that the Senate wouldn't vote.
Senators like to advise and consult and be asked what they think, so it's natural there'd be a little resentment of McConnell jumping in ahead of them.
If a Republican wins the Presidency he will probably have an opportunity to recommend three Supreme Court Justices. So if Obama wins this one there will be some damage but the court will shift conservative during the next Presidential term.
