On Mondayâs âMorning Joeâ on MSNBC, House Majority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) weighed in on the rise of Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump coming off of his win in the South Carolina Republican primary on Saturday.
McCarthy said to co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski the presidential election feels a lot like the 2003 California special election for Arnold Schwarzenegger and he said Trump would be someone he could work with.
Partial transcript as follows:
SCARBOROUGH: Kevin, what do you think of the state of the Republican race right now? Come on, tell it to us straight. Is the panic setting in yet?
MCCARTHY: No. Not panic. But this feels like â Iâm from California.
SCARBOROUGH: Yeah.
MCCARTHY: This feels like the special election when Arnold Schwarzeneggerâ¦
BRZEZINSKI: Yeah.
MCCARTHY: He went on the Tonight Show. I was in the state assembly at the time, I was the Republican leader. Thereâs a lot of similarities, even down the fact that they replaced Trump with Arnold on âThe Apprentice.â

Trump needs to not cave in like Schwarzenegger who became the “economic girly-man” he chided others not to be.
Feels like Middle America got gang banged by federation of frauds in DC.
There we go, a massive Leftist in the Republican party Leadership whoes poltical incompetence lead to this, is whining about Trump.
Here is an idea Kevbo, if you had tried doing your job instead of being Obama’s rubber stamp maybe we would not need Trump
Yes it does.
Feels even more like Obama 2008.
There are numerous commonalities.
One is that the candidate with emotional cult of personality quasi-religious support wins.
This from the guy who helped Hillary’s campaign with his Benghazi political “slip”
Kevin McCarthy and his ilk definitely ushered in Trump.
They are deaf and blind to it still.
Unfortunately the California voters yearn for a Socialist nirvana that just exists in fiction. Just like the Sanders (and Dem) crowd. It is a shame that people refuse to learn from history (and human nature) and insist on implementing this misery upon everyone, and themselves. And when it fails - they still refuse to accept the cause...
Ha.
Trump supports guys like McCarthy. That’s the irony.
He endorsed Romney in ‘12. McConnell in ‘14.
Didn’t take long for this SACK of SHT to wave the ‘white flag’ to PATTON ...errrrr... TRUMP! Before TRUMP’s 3rd ARMY comes barreling into DC!
You have it wrong! TRUMP doesn’t ‘SUPPORT’ anyone in DC.
This POS McCarthy is already waving the ‘white flag’ to TRUMP. It’s McCarthy who is trying to save his own ass in the future. TRUMP doesn’t have to save his ass for anyone!
Exactly. If the Republicans had run on principle and taken on the president instead of caving in to him then today Donald Trump is still presiding over The Apprentice. You brought this on yourself Rep.McCarthy and now a large chunk of the GOP voters are telling you and the rest of the party hacks to go stick it.
Kevin McCarthy that paragon of morality with Renee Elmers go handle your own issues.
Disclaimer, I voted for McClintock.
Arnold made a mistake, he hacked off the union controlled reps in Sacramento.
The unions weighed in heavily against all of the propositions and used millions of $$’s in advertising to squash the revolt.
Arnold didn’t have the $$ to fund advertising to rebut/refute the union claims.
The rest is history...Arnold became what we feared...a globullist who signed one of the worst pieces of legislation CA has ever seen...The Global Warming Solutions Act. Although I think this was accomplished via blackmail about his illegitimate child with the maid.
McCarthy is an open borders, can’t keep it in his pants kind of guy.
I’m ashamed I ever voted for him...
Arnold Schwarzenegger-Kennedy? A globalist? Quelle surprise.
Let the Traitorous scum attack, it only helps...
