It’s time to get over that initial infatuation and look at who Donald Trump is.

Nah, it is too soon. It will happen though, say...at the end of October, and people will stay home and hello President Hillary.

Having lost my property to ED only to have it privately developed is why i will not support Trump.

I remain committed to supporting the most solidly conservative candidate any time I have the opportunity to vote. It will be sad day when a strong proponent of eminent domain is the most conservative candidate in the race.

yep!

i wish the folks wearing blinders would see Trump for who he is. he’s not a conservative. not be any reasonable definition. he’s right about some of the things he’s talking about, but he’s also talking abstractly about them. he just says “i’ll do this”, or “i’ll solve that”, or “trust me, it won’t happen with me in office”. those are not exactly comforting explanations to me, as a conservative, who doesn’t believe that government should be all powerful, nor should the president.

he’s right about illegal immigration. he’s right about H1B visa’s destroying the lives of middle class white Americans. he right that Obama has been a nightmare for black Americans. he’s right that China is waging an economic war against us. but these are just a couple of the many issues we as conservatives care about.

above all, Trump is a deal maker. that’s the last thing principled conservatives need in our nominee. in fact, we want somebody who won’t constantly sell us out while cutting deals with the democRATS.

i’m honestly worried about him. i don’t think he should be the nominee. i worry that there is a vast treasure trove of dirt on him that will come out in the general election from both the media and the democRATS. even if he were to survive all of that, i think his presidency would not be a good one for conservatives. he’s a born and raised NYC liberal squishy republican/democRAT. he’ll be good on a couple of issues (although it’s debatable if he’ll accomplish anything towards fixing those problems) and bad on a whole host of others.

it saddens me that so many have become enamored by him because of his celebrity... but at least he’s not afraid of his own shadow like the rest of the GOP field. it’s nice to have somebody willing to fight for a change. of course, once they call him a racist on ABC/CBS/NBC/CNN who knows how long he’ll stick to his guns. Boehner only lasted 17 seconds. McConnell even less.

i’m supporting Cruz. i like Caron, but he’s not yet ready for this stage. if i had to choose between Trump and the hildebeast or the commie from Vermont, i’d choose Trump. but i’d do so reluctantly and it would be the same way i felt when voting for McCain and Romney and Dole.

we need a real conservative in office. somebody who has been in the trenches with the rest of us for decades. we need a republican controlled congress too. only then can we start undoing the damage from 28 years of squishy Rockefeller republicans and leftist democRATS.

As opposed to the tactics Obama & Reid are using to get ranches like the Bundy Ranch & the Hammond ranch?

Water under the Bundy ranch & Reid wants that water for more Las Vegas golf courses.

Valuable minerals under the Hammond ranch & others & Obama wants to sell that land to the Chinese.

We will find out in the next couple weeks if people will return to their better selves. I'm not overly optimistic right now. I've been surprised at how some FReepers I've read for years have so totally embraced Trump and been willing to throw out principals they always claimed were important.

You want real anger or real issues?

For decades Americans have begged, voted, screamed, petitioned, marched, protested, boycotted for relief in an effort to secure borders, and D.C. did nothing.

Borders which were intentionally left open and in fact were aided and abetted by those in D.C. A relentless epic violent country killing illegal invasion. All this while entire major cities and entire states have been being completely over during these decades, costing Americans hundreds of billions.

Where were all these big conservatives in D.C. during these decades of invasion, decline and betrayal?

Its not unhinged to post the history of the bully that far to many freepers are merrily following to their doom. Trump is not a Conservative, Trump is not a populist, Trump has no integrity. Trump is an authoritarian fascist who is corrupt to his core. Anyone who wants this man in power either needs to read up on him or get their head examined.

I think you're right. He's not going to be able to unite the party after all the denigrating personal attacks he's made. I know I won't vote for him because I promised myself I would never support a non-conservative again after voting for Romney.

I moved to Delray Beach 3 years ago, and soon after I took the boat tour of the Inter-coastal. This was years before Trump even entered politics.

In 2006, shortly after the Kelo decision, the mayor of Riveria Beach tried to condemn all of the original housing on the intra-coastal waterway to build a yacht club and marina.

See this link for an image of the newspaper story: Florida Eminent Domain Case Pits Blue Collar Against Wealth.

The homeowner quote from the article that still resonates with me today is,

In what has been called the largest eminent domain case in the nation, the mayor and other elected leaders want to move about 6,000 residents, tear down their homes and use the emptied 400-acre site to build a waterfront yachting and residential complex for the well-to-do.

"What they mean is that the view I have is too good for me, and should go to some millionaire," said Martha Babson, 60, a housepainter who lives near the intra-coastal waterway.

The people of Riviera Beach fought back and won.

I took note of this story back then because I lived in the greater area in the mid 1970s and know what the area was like when the people who were being threatened had first moved there.

Donald Trump was nowhere to be seen with this Florida land grab; it was all on the local politicians.

Didn’t know the US Constitution applied to the UK.

Doesn't matter. It's more feces for the NR and Cruzaders here to throw against the wall to see what sticks. They are off the rails. Especially since St. Ted got smoked in SC.

I'm with you. I haven't lost any property to ED, but I can't stand bullies. I detest people who threaten, or file, lawsuits to intimidate people. I detest people who use govt connections to take other peoples possessions.

You just placed an excellent calibration point for the level of maturity of the vocal Trump supporters.

It’s like King Kong sitting in on the Republican conference room table while everyone strains to ignore it, like they have for decades.

No more.

one way to tell the difference between an establishment republican and a conservative republican is this...

if the person supports using the power of the government to help the rich get richer, or to help big business to ward off marketplace threats from smaller competitors, the person is an establishment republican (aka chamber of commerce republican, rockefeller republican, corporatists, country club republicans, etc.).

growing up, i used to hear all the time that the GOP was the party of the rich. i rejected that smear. the republican party i saw was the party of the Constitution, individual liberty, and small business. this was during the Reagan years.

it turns out, i was wrong. the GOP is the party of the rich. i just happened to come of age during a time when that rule didn’t hold true nationally. unfortunately, the first order of business for George HW Bush was to restore the control of the party back to these country club republicans.

it makes me sad to see that the Reagan Revolution has been undone by these apparatchiks.
