“Many of us were taught in school and colleges before this came up that a president must have been born on American soil from citizen parents. That has been the historical take throughout American history.”
That’s what was drummed into my head at school.
Born here of citizen parents
Natural born citizen
One is naturally a US citizen when there is no other possibility.
If one can be anything else, one cannot be a natural born citizen.
It has a clear meaning, but both parties want to run ineligible candidates, so they are confusing people as to what that meaning is.
Unfortunately for them, there are lots of us still alive who know what it means.
I was also taught that in school. This whole argument makes me angry. Obama had no business running and I am furious with the courts, with Hillary, with McCain, with everybody who had standing and did not take this to the mat. Pelosi signed off on this, she should have faced the music as well. The electoral college who cast their votes for Obama need answer for this treasonous unconstitutional action. We need to firmly shut the door on this nonsense, and just accept the constitutional requirements for the office. The President is the commander in chief, he can send our young soldiers into harm’s way, without the consent of anyone. We need to try to protect those young people by at least taking the constitution seriously, and taking this minimal step to ensure that the CoC does not have divided loyalties. That being said, of course, we have had some terribly irresponsible presidents, I freely acknowledge that, but that does not mean that we should throw this constitution out.
Because that is what it is!
Rep. John A. Bingham,In the United States House on March 9, 1866 commenting upon Section 1992 of the Civil Rights Act, was “simply declaratory of what is written in the Constitution, that every human being born within the jurisdiction of the United States of parents not owing allegiance to any foreign sovereignty is, in the language of your Constitution itself, a natural born citizen.”
