The kibbutz these days is probably what we would called a limited liability partnership. Soviet-style kibbutzim disappeared over time as they became financially prosperous.
Stalin was planning his own mass extermination of Jews before his death. It may have been a Jewish ‘Doctor’s Plot’ that did Stalin in.
Jon Stewart is not a Scot, either.
wow. That would be great if they were the ones responsible for his death :)
strike first!!
too bad such a talented guy leans left.
oh, so it was a smear!
Never heard about it before ten minutes ago.
The Black Plague.
Good Lord!! What did these poor people do to invite such animosity?
The inquisition is embarrassment enough.
A small community can survive as a socialist enclave within a broader free society due to the costs of socialism bei g hidden eithin the greater society and economy.
Just like portions of Europe, some countries, can stumble along using a socialist economic model as long as other free market driven nations are their to protect them ohysically and economically.
Aka....U.S.A spending vast sums on military allow small socialist natons in Europe to pretend socialism works without having to pay the costs if remaining free from invaders.
That’s how Clinton cut the deficit, and boy did we pay for it.
those western European snobs really get me mad. They would either be under German or Russian rule if it weren’t for us.
Kibbutzes work for their inhabitants because they choose to join, and the members are motivated, hard-working Jews. It should be obvious that this cannot be extended to the entire population.
Slackers, lazy slobs and indolent morons in the general population destroy all the advantages of communal living.
[I know the Hebrew plural of kibbutz, but this is written in English]
âStalin died â after he drank Khrushchevâs poison.
Possibly. IIRC he was likely poisoned but the culprit could have been several people. He had plenty of enemies.
If there is any consolation, Stalin did die a relatively slow and painful death. Again IIRC he was conscious for a few days on his deathbed but could only groan. Sort of a Tales of the Crypt story.
Great, a possible stalinist. I could have guessed:(
I wonder how laziness was dealt with in the USSR?
You were promoted; see Gorbachev.
lol!!
so it’s like the public sector here?
“Bernie Sanders isn’t a socialist. He’s a flaming Communist.”
That’s why so many people love him; more than 40%.
(Can you say President Sanders?)
IMHO
God saw to it that the butcher Stalin had time to contemplate his own impending death. But in addition to that, one account has it that moments before dying Stalin gazed with horror at something above & beyond the watchers at his bedside. He pointed a shaking finger at it & died.
It may have been the gates of Hell.
Many think Beria poisoned Stalin, because he found out Stalin was about to purge the entire Politburo.
Early on I read an article in a Brit newspaper stating he had a cozy relationship with the USSR during the Cold War. It mentioned that he honeymooned in Russia and that he met with whoever the Communist youth leadership was at the time. It intimated Sanders was known as a flaming anti-American at the time.
On a small scale communal living can work for a period of time. The Shaker movement in America is an example and the more successful ones tend, as with the early Kibbutzim in Israel, to have a strong religious foundation. Also, coalescing to survive in a hostile environment like Palestine under the British mandate and living as a military unit under constant Arab threat kept them together. But over the years many kibbutzim evolved into what amount to employee owned companies. The purely political Communistic ones like the kibbutz Sanders apparently lived on for awhile may not even exist anymore. It would be interesting to hear some Israelis comment.
Laziness/incompetence in the Soviet Union: Near the end Gorbachev loosened things up with perestroika, allowing travel from the west. A couple who were instructors at a local Jr college went & gave talks describing their journey. The bus boy at the hotel they were staying was very belligerent, unfriendly & did as little as possible. They asked the management why they did not fire him? The answer was that they had to find him another job before they could do that.
