Wall Street Journal calls on Trump to release tax returns

The Wall Street Journal is calling on Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump to release his tax returns by the end of the month.

The newspaper's conservative-leaning editorial board wrote Friday that Trump must prove he is as successful in the business world as he says he is.

"One of Donald Trump's claims to presidential competence is his business and financial success, and so he should want voters to see the proof beyond the gilded staircases," they wrote. "He could enhance his credibility on the point by releasing his tax returns."

The Journal catalogued Trump's repeated dodges on the question of his tax returns. They noted that he said in January that "I have everything all approved," but said last week that the returns will still take several months.

"Waiting that long suggests that he'd wait until he wins or loses the nomination, which means before primary voters can get a look," the editorial said.

It warned Trump against falling into the same "bad political mistake" 2012 GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney made in waiting until two months before that election to release his returns, allowing Democrats to spread speculation about Romney's finances.

The Journal noted that Trump's rivals Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz have not released their most recent tax returns, but both publicized their returns when running for Senate in recent years.

Trump on Wednesday accused the Journal of having it out for him, pointing to his poor numbers in polls conducted by the newspaper.

"I think somebody at the Wall Street Journal doesn't like me," he said at an MSNBC town hall in Charleston, S.C.

"I think most of the polls were taken after the debate and they worked out good for me," Trump said. "I have never done well with the Wall Street Journal poll. I don't know. They do these small samples and I don't know exactly what it represents."

You miss my point I guess, he can’t do that so it’s probably BS.

The second sentence contains an untruth: “conservative- leaning”. The WSJ WAS conservative-leaning once upon a time. But since Murdoch took it over, that’s no longer the case.

If it said “Trump-despising” or “cheap labor, open borders promoting” it would be much more accurate. IMHO. This salivating for a look at Trump’s tax returns is just the latest desperate grasp for some kind, any kind of a straw.

“Can anyone say Trump is dodging the release of his tax returns?”
Even though neither Obama or Cruz will release their records or their mothers’ records that are certainly germane to their eligibility to hold the office, but Trump is expected to `hop to it’ to satisfy the Republican establishment Urinal?
He’ll release non-germane records if he chooses to do so, and when he chooses, possibly when he’s disposed of the pretenders and is facing a non-GOP-e `rat—for the win.
If you were to ask Trump, “Are you dodging anything?” I suppose he might say to you, “Go eff yourself.”

OK, that’s fair. Every candidate should.

Agreed, but the WSJ only called for Trumps returns.

Has anybody seen any of his college transcripts with all these good grades he claims he made, you know, really, really good grades. Or did they make it to the same sippy hole Obama’s made it to?

Clinton and Sanders have both released their tax returns, as has Bush.

It's customary for candidates to do so. That you believe that asking a billionaire front-runner to do so is somehow unreasonable just shows how paranoid the Trump supporters are.

I really want to see Trump's returns from before he decided to run. Want to bet that he was one of the worst "offenders" of tax "avoidance"?

Note that I, a Trump foe, would have no trouble with that, so long as he's keeping legal. But I bet that Trump's supporters (other than the cultists) would abandon him if this was true.

One thing's for sure: if Trump's returns are embarassing, this administration will leak them once Trump has cinched the nomination. So Trump might as well "come clean" now.

Can anyone say Trump is dodging the release of his tax returns?

Can YOU explain why no one in the MSM is demanding the release of Hillary and Bernie's own returns?

Why do you find it necessary to align yourself with the MSM and attempt to take down our own candidates when you and the MSM are giving Sanders and Clinton a pass?

It's incredible how stupid the members of our own party have become............
