I've had some large PV modules on homebuilt mounts at more than 45-degrees (tilt) on a travel trailer through 110-mph+ wind gusts during winters (high elevation here). They're still mounted tight, fine and will probably work well for more than 25 years. With daily discharges at about an average of 10%, the low cost batteries (thick-plated Crowns) will probably last over 8 years.

With a self-install and careful choices in components, off-grid PV solar power can cost less than grid power as calculated over the lives of the components.

I’ll be installing a permitted and inspected system without any subsidy for a house soon. Without a “professional” installation, it will be well worth it.
