She simply does not “believe” she lied.
Which of course, IS A LIE.
And she thinks she is fooling everybody that hears her.

I agree. To her, it's all about what can be proven or disproven in court. Because the ends justify the means in her mind, the truth is what she believes it is, and a lie is what she believes it is. But she's well aware that the legal system might not see it quite that way. So it's parse, parse, parse and dance on the head of a pin.
Self-preservation is pretty instinctive for most animals. But this creature has got it down to cold science.
