I was a liberal Democrat in 1960. Worked for for a liberal senator who was a, however, a strong anti-communist and social conservative. I also voted for Nixon twice, and voted for Carter because I thought he was more moderate than Ford, certainly on abortion. I would have voted for Reagan, especially after I heard his off-the-cuff convention speech. Incidentally, Califano, Carter’s HEW appointee, was strongly pro-life. Nixon was two faced on the issue and Ford and his wife were strongly pro-choice. Gave up on Carter by the end of his first year, a decision reinforced by his betrayal of the Shah. Then came the hostage crisis,.. Now let me see. 1980 to 2015. Thirty five years. I was forty when I last voted for a Democratic candidate.
