Yep. And Trump does put his foot in his mouth on occasion, but I also weigh that against a) what his overall point was and b) the pearl-clutching reaction from the people that hate him and want him to lose at all cost. Your friend was probably referring to Trump saying the Iraq war was a mistake, it’s been something the haters have grabbed on to, and while Trump was not on his best game (which I can understand considering he was being boo’d constantly by the stacked RNC crowd), his overall point was “look where this got us, we shouldn’t pick these same people to be in charge again and again”, which I wholeheartedly agree with.
But switching candidates all of the time when they color outside the lines of your own ideology, is not a smart move. I look for bigger picture reasons to support someone and right now Trump looks to be swinging for the outfield fences. I'm watching to see if he'll hit it out of the ballpark and wins the nomination. But he could also strike out like big swingers and home run hitters are prone to do. No one knows for sure.
Supporting someone just because you think will can beat the democRATS in November is putting the cart-before-the-horse to me. Let's cross that road when we get there and then reassess our chances. Right now, the prize is the Republican primary nomination. Let's keep our eyes on that target and focus on the general election after that.
