Glib overgeneralizations that fail in many cases to be true miss the point and sometimes even make the accuser look a lot like what he is railing at.

The hierarchy is going to be the hierarchy and it will sometimes do weird things indeed. Respect should be extended to rank and file worshipers, who in spite of the harangues they may get from the hierarchy, may not really buy it in the end, and often who are earnestly searching for some real sign of God themselves. Or like many of the people that end up being deemed saints, they find Christ on their own and manifest unmistakable signs of it.

I agree. Jesus was very harsh on the religious leaders of his day. However, when dealing with those; that perhaps we might think most deserving of his scorn, he had a very different attitude. In neither case did he back down from the Truth, but his delivery of it was very different. A great example for us to follow.
