I had a massive brawling Maine Coon who'd grown up feral in San Francisco, that my late father picked up off the street. Kitty did that, he'd get tummy rubs anyway. I'd bleed a lot. We played rough.
He slept on top of me and would see me off to sleep every night and was fiercely protective. One of my all time best cats. I miss him terribly.
