Sure, thats probably the case in terms of actual execution, since Paul is out of the Presidential race.
But keep in mind that voter lists, which include party affiliation, are available to all the candidates and not just the party. Cruz and Trump have access to those lists.
The individual candidates are, at the end of the day responsible for turning out their own supporters.
The way I see it, right now anyways, is that the KY caucuses are flying so far under the radar that all the campaigns, including Trump and Cruz, see an advantage in keeping turnout as low as possible and then using data-driven methods to try to get as many of their known/well defined supporters to the polls, hoping that the other campaigns won’t do as well as them.
Also, keeping knowlege of the caucuses suppressed, suppressing general turnout, reduces the possibility of a really big wildcard: undecided voters
showing up.
Of course it could just be that the campaigns consider KY to be small pickings and not worth a big turnout effort.
You do not understand how it works in this Commonwealth.
This is NOT going to be a boost to anyone NOT an Establishment pick- because virtually the ONLY bunch of folks who are stoked and plugged into this caucus event ARE TEAM MITCH’S POLITICAL MACHINE.
Most grassroots Conservatives are NOT going to be turning out for this caucus on a Saturday afternoon with a KY Wildcat game scheduled that afternoon. Not . Gonna. Happen.
The only ones turning out - are going to be the Establishment Party hacks and they will vote for whomever the Ruling Class is pushing - even if it is to damage the outsiders. Count on it.
Team Mitch handed him his Senate Seat despite his massive unpopularity in this state. Machine politics made that possible, and the Machine is the only thing working the Caucus event that MOST of the average Joe GOP is totally clueless about.
