It was Richard Allen who was the go between with Reagan and Bush. At the last minute Allen phoned Bush and asked him if he could/would completely support the entire 1980 platform. Bush agreed and the rest is history. Reagan was hesitant because of the “voodoo economics” charge and Bush’s seemingly support of abortion.
OK- Richard Allen. Couldn’t remember. Allen being a spook of course— reaching out to the former Ambassador to China and uh... CIA director. So that’s how we got Reagan’s efforts de-constructed.
