The vindictiveness seems to be tied to espousing a certain agenda, or sometimes, sub-agenda (there are many flavors of what goes as “conservative.”)
If one had to pick a most basic principle, it should be truth, coupled with most basic values as outlined in the best of Judeo-Christian understanding. One might be wrong by that measure, but it’s also never unforgivable.
Nothing wrong with that but we have plenty here who are either nominal Christians ....usually born Catholic and kinda lapsed and we have a lot of Jews who sure as heck don’t want to hear the gospel from their candidate.....and I don’t blame them
Standing up as devout in conviction and proselytizing from the stump are two entirely different things
I’d be wary of the latter right now ...people don’t want you to save their souls when you’re running for office
It’s like funerals where the pastor walks on water too much and rather than commiserating over the deceased and celebrating their passage to the side of God they exploit that time of grief to try to save souls and hone their evangelical axe
I never much liked that but I’ve seen some Missionary Baptist preachers in rural Tennessee give it a go even up to an invitational by the casket
Poor taste
Politics and proselytizing...it’s like shrimp and milkshakes
Doesn’t go good together
