Krauthammer: CBS Republican Debate Was "Thermonuclear War," "We Went From WWE To The UFC"
RCP ^

Posted on 02/14/2016 5:54:28 AM PST by RoosterRedux

Charles Krauthammer analyzes the Saturday night Republican presidential debate moderated by CBS News. Krauthammer said if the previous debates had been World War I or II, then this debate was a thermonuclear war. The syndicated columnist said Trump debated like "a man who was not sitting on the lead" because the candidate engaged with every top candidate.

CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER: If the previous Republican debates have been World War I or II this is is thermonuclear. I have is not seen as many personal attacks or high temperature attacks as we saw in this debate. I am not sure that you can judge the debate on who won or lost on the actual sound bites of who won this exchange or, that that, it was the tone. I think that if you counted up the number of times that the word 'lie' and 'liar' was employed, it would exceed the number of times it has been used in all previous debates.

In the end, I thought that Trump was a man who was not sitting on the lead, that's for sure. He was engaged personally with everybody at a very bitter level... with Bush, he was throwing around insults, including the family, and getting incoming as well from all sides. So he didn't sit on the lead. I think he took a risk in being as open and often contemptuous as he was, but I don't think it's going to shake his support. The question is, will it limit his support?

Krauthammer is an employee of Fox.

He is a paid political "contributor" and "analyst". So are Kirsten Powers, Juan Williams, George Will, et al.

Hell, if you google it you can see that sometimes the guests being interviewed are paid.

How Much Are Fox Contributors Paid?

Kraut upset you? Your own darn fault, I don’t watch Fox any more, I boycott Fox. If you don’t watch them you don’t get annoyed.

The RNC chair Reindeer Preposterous should be fired. His allowing booing made the GOP presidential candidates look like Palooka’s .

They even booed Trump when he said he lost 100 friends on 911, that showed these rich guys for all their money lack any sense of decency or class.

I don't think it's going to shake his support.

It won't. It will galvanize his support.

At the heart of his support is the fury of sane, responsible Americans at the decadence and the decadent people who have brought the U.S.A. to the brink of destruction from within.

It is fury. It is rage. It is utter contempt for America's enemies and their dupes whose malice and stupidity threaten the existence of the United States.

It is rage against the Decline and Fall of America--a rage that will not be appeased or satisfied with anything less than the return of America to ascendancy.

The question is, will it limit his support?

Yes. But the real question is whether there are enough sane, responsible Americans to support him and reverse the decay--or whether they are outnumbered by the decadent, the malevolent, and the stupid.

Dr. K is but a member of the crowd who has never felt the ‘love’ toward Trump. His scathing article on the man only continues to follow the pattern prior. The match was found to be a massive free for all. Yes, Donald was on fire. The electricity crackled. Our last bastion to hold our Republic intact was taken yesterday. Trump has little time to attempt a healing of this country. He must feel the same urgent need that many of Us feel. The death of Scalia was something few on our side ever anticipated. With his death, the game which had been played suddenly proceeded in an entirely new direction. Donald suddenly realized just what would be at stake and the fact that everything might be destroyed before he was given the opportunity to work his ‘magic’. If Dr. K wishes to see war - perhaps he’d best turn his attention to WTP who understand what just happened outside his floating bubble.

The boy just doesn't know how to stay out of the mud.

Well... he walked into a MUD PIT where everyone was SLINGING MUD, including the audience.

Are you suggesting he should not have attended the debate ?

I wonder if Krauthammer really knows the difference between the WWE and the UFC?

I don’t think I would put most of the trump cult in the sane category....trump doesn’t scare me as much as his cult does....I met a trump guy Friday and he voted for Obama twice. Kinda shows the low information voter type of person he’s attracting. Good for him but bad for conservatism

I love people posting internet polls as if they have any correlate with reality. The Trump love around here is very depressing. Ten or so years ago the commentary on this site was reasonably thought out and palatable. Now, so many posters seem to have the inability to see a big picture and are willing to cast their lot with a circus barker. These are sad times we live in. Buckley and Goldwater are rolling over in their graves.

these polls are as accurate as Obamas Employment numbers. Trump was winning before the debate started because Trumpers follow Ron Pauls way of doing those polls.

Everyone in this thread who points out that “Kraphammer” (lol) is a biased fool who hates Trump is right....Krauthammer himself is a jackass who is wrong.

Krauthammer doesn’t venture far away from Fox because he’s virtually an employee at Fox.

I don't care what you think about Krauthammer's rhetoric. But I believe Krauthammer sticks to commentary on Fox shows because it's a "one stop" destination. The man is a quadriplegic. I've often thought it has to be incredibly difficult to consistently make it to one place, day in and day out. On a personal level, I admire him for his "keep going" tenacity.

Pretty ugly last evening. Right smack dab in the middle...Trump. The boy just doesn't know how to stay out of the mud.

Sick of the GOP dance hall girls. We need Al Swearengen for what's to come.

The whole damn thing is just ugly. If they don't stop, there could be unintended consequences to all this.

What I am saying, debate is debate, insults and childish slander are quite another. Trump always seems to take it to another level.

I'd vote for him in the general, but I'm not thinkin too highly of him.
