As I understand it they have only 40 aircraft at Latakia. Could be wrong. 200 more, given the effectivenesss of the 40, is bad news for the Turks. Air assets are forfit before they are off the field if this gets serious. S300 on the crusier off shore and S400 at Latakia - which, as I understand it, can take out the tanks and other vehicles without risking any planes.
Do you have enough popcorn?
You might want your sun tan lotion.
Yes they can hit Aleppo.
They can hit anywhere within 100-200 miles at least, with artillery rocket systems.
They have US ATCMs, plus many others incl 100+ 300mm rocket launchers with 100km+ range.
S400 is an AA system, not good against tanks.
The Russians have the airbase at Latakia which in range of artillery rocket systems, and could be in range of ordinary artillery with just a short advance up the coast road.
The Russian strategic position, in conventional terms, is very precarious.
This could get very bad very quickly.
Well, the Russians have said it will take out surface vehicles, ship, planes, cruise missiles, and arty - the S300 is good against planes and ships only - they said.
So if things do go the popcorn route we may have some interesting videos posted ...
Er, that’s nuts.
Somebody was smoking something.
Sounds more like “Who’s on First?” This is like Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia, Yugoslavia - never did know who the bad guys were and who the good guys were.. Some people were killing muslims or muslims were killing some people. I remember the news when snipers were in the hills taking shots at people going about their business buying food, buildings being blown apart. Think I’ll sit this one out...If muslims are killing muslims, why be concerned?
It’s not worth the life of one US soldier to get involved in this mess.
They could have been on something - I cannot remember were I saw that - came out about the same time as the batteries were placed at Latakia ... the premise I believe was if the system can see something form sea level up, and there is a missile for the target then it can hit it, even under heavy jamming. Am tired and can’t wade thru all that jargon at the moment.
“The stated aim of this approach was to permit repeated launches against saturation attacks with precision guided munitions - in effect trading 9M96 rounds for incoming guided weapons. Fakel claim a single shot kill probability of 70% against a Harpoon class missile, and 90% against a manned aircraft.”
That is the best I can do at the moment (Fakel is the maker) - from: http://ausairpower.net/APA-S-400-Triumf.html
Dear traitor kerry: I thought he said last week that peace was at hand. Incompetent. Fool.
That’s intercepting airborne targets.
On land ? How does it tell a field gun from a trash can, or a tank from a garden shack?
And rockets and shells are way cheaper than SAMs.
