I have not seen any papers mentioning birth defects before 2015. This paper from 2014 points out 40 Guillain-Barre syndromes (8x the normal rate):

Thanks for the link. Reading now.
Other Freepers directed me to environmental factors in Brazil. I have looked and not found any papers mentioning birth defects in the past too.
Here is a paper that was brought to my attention in regards to environmental factors.
